During Thursday’s game, Francys Romero of Beisbol FR reported that the Mets are claiming Andy Ibáñez off of waivers (h/t MLB Trade Rumors).

Romero wrote: “Source: The New York Mets have acquired Andy Ibáñez from the Athletics.”

Ibáñez is currently batting .118 with two hits, three RBI’s and one run in 11 games for the Athletics this season.

He had been designated for assignment earlier this week.

Before the Mets, the 33-year-old spent time with the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers over six total seasons.

Here’s what people were saying on social media:

@WexlerRules: “Ibanez (who is out of options) will presumably join the team in LA. No corresponding move is necessary as there was an open 40 man spot following Carl Edwards Jr.’s DFA”

Dear Abby: I was still waiting for my invitation when I saw the wedding photos online

@MinSub4: “Man I feel so bad for Andy Ibañez He started the offseason signing an MLB deal with the Dodgers… who then DFA’d him before spring training even begin. He then has to go to the only homeless team in baseball, the Athletics. Now he has to go to the Mets”

@NYM_News: “JUST IN: The #Mets have acquired utility man Andy Ibáñez from the Athletics, per Francys Romero. Ibáñez, 33, is hitting .118 with a .285 OPS in 17 AB this season. He had 4 HR, 21 RBI and a .653 OPS in 91 games last year in Detroit. Brings versatility, has mostly played 2B and 3B.”

Mike Mayer: “He’s played SS, 2B, 3B, 1B, LF and RF. He’s a career .275/.321/.442 hitter against lefties.”

@AaronShamilov: “Utility guy. Can play everywhere on the field.”
