MLB World Reacts to Braves’ Spencer Strider News

Conflicting reports from some Atlanta Braves reports, but manager Walt Weiss spoke with media on Tuesday, and he’s the final verdict.

After a report surfaced this morning that Spencer Strider needed some more time before he’s to make his season debut, Weiss told reporters, like Mark Bowman and Alison Mastrangelo, that he will start when it’s time for him to pitch according to his schedule. His oblique is good to go, and he will no longer be on the Braves farm. It’s big news before the Braves play the Detroit Tigers in a three-game set on Tuesday.

Braves’ Spencer Strider Set to Make Team Debut

The next time Spencer Strider takes the ball for a professional baseball game, it will be with the Atlanta Braves.

Alison Mastrangelo wrote (on April 28): “Spencer Striders rehab starts are over. His next start will be with the Braves. Walt Weiss says they will just have to see where they want to put him in the rotation. He said it will be good to have Spencer back. Sean Murphy looks good defensively just needs more at bats over the next 4-5 days. ”

Mark Bowman also wrote:

“Spencer Strider’s next start will be with Atlanta. His rehab assignment is over. The Braves haven’t set their rotation for this weekend at Coors Field.”
Braves Country will welcome Strider back with open arms, as he’s a fan favorite in Atlanta. There will have to be a corresponding move when it’s time, so expect another roster decision from the Braves on the pitching side of things in the next week or so.

MLB World Reacts to Recent Spencer Strider News

The recent Spencer Strider news has received a lot of reaction on social media.

Spencer Strider will also have to prove to fans though that he can still pitch effectively.

@TheLab_FBB: “I would still be very cautious on Spencer Strider. He ruined your team last year if you owned him. Yes, he’s looked better at times, velo has come and gone. But he is probably worth more in fantasy as a name (trade him) than production.”
It’s a good point, as the Braves rotation has seen some strong starts from Grant Holmes, Chris Sale (obviously), and Bryce Elder. Per the Braves’ current depth chart, it figures to be either Martin Perez, JR Ritchie, or Jose Suarez who will swap places with Spencer Strider.
@kirbskol: “Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider will be activated from the 15 day injured list to make his 2026 season debut during this upcoming weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Spencer Strider returns to the rotation this weekend.”
Spencer Strider posted a 4.45 ERA over 125+ innings last season, and 51 walks allowed. He’s very reliant on velocity, which took a hit when he had to undergo UCL surgery, but Strider has reportedly gained some of it back. Back in 2022 to 2024, Strider could consistently hit 98-100 MPH. Now, it’s more like 95-96 MPH.
