The Denver Nuggets are reportedly willing to move Jamal Murray, and the Miami Heat may make the most sense as a trade partner this summer. An embarrassing first-round elimination for Denver leads to the question of who they can trade to make big changes to the roster. Aaron Gordon and Murray are the two names most likely to get traded, but the latter would clearly have much stronger value as a premiere point guard.
Fadeaway World pitched the following trade of Murray going to Miami with the following rationale:
“Miami Heat Receive: Jamal Murray, Zeke Nnaji
Denver Nuggets Receive: Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell, Jaime Jaquez Jr.
For the Nuggets, this is about splitting one huge contract into three useful pieces. The concern is that Herro does not fix the defense. If the Nuggets trade Murray, they probably want to become bigger and harder to score against.
Herro helps the offense, but he is not a defensive answer. That is why Mitchell and Jaquez are important. Without both, the deal does not make enough sense.”
The logic is there Denver will want to trade Murray for multiple pieces to improve their depth. Last offseason featured the Nuggets getting creative to have stronger depth, but they still ran out of gas this season.
Miami Heat’s Trade Package For Jamal Murray
Miami has multiple players under 30 years old that can help contending teams around the league. Denver would have to be content with trading by far the best player in the deal to get three strong contributors and completely change their dynamic.
Tyler Herro is the biggest name in the deal as a former All-Star with similar strengths to Murray. The Nuggets would essentially be asking Herro to score the 20+ points they’ve received from Murray in recent years and hit the three-pointers that Nikola Jokic will get him via double teams.
Jamie Jaquez Jr. and Davion Mitchell would give them younger talents with more versatility to be fresh by playoff time. Mitchell has been a great help to Miami as an impressive facilitator to play point guard. Jaquez is considered one of the best sixth men in the league and could develop into something more for a team like Denver.
Does Jamal Murray Help The Miami Heat?
Miami has failed to acquire their ideal stars over the past few seasons, with talks involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard not coming to fruition. All reports indicate the Heat hope to shop their assets to improve the star power this summer.
Bam Adebayo is reportedly the only safe name that Pat Riley wants to keep. Miami could realistically still trade for Giannis this summer since Kel’el Ware, Andrew Wiggins, and all their draft picks would still be available after this Murray trade.
Murray coming to the Heat would likely signify another trade down the line. The goal would be to have Murray and Adebayo serve as complimentary pieces to an even greater star as a new big three. Riley will have his chance to be aggressive this summer with Murray and many other big names on the trade block.
