Mets Trade Prediction Lands Astros’ Yordan Alvarez for Three MLB Players

The New York Mets are in a heap of trouble, sitting with a 7-16 record and in the cellar of the NL East. Misery loves company, and the Mets and Phillies are currently battling it out for MLB’s worst record at the moment.

However, one reason the Mets have been so bad is due to their horrific production from the DH spot. A recent ‘Yordan Alvarez trade landing spot’ piece by Bleacher Report pins the Mets as the top destination for the Astros’ premier slugger. The Astros, much like the Mets, are struggling mightily to start the season, which may result in a fire sale come the summer months.

If the Mets are even in contention at that time, which feels unlikely after 12 straight losses, should Yordan Alvarez be at the top of their trade wish list?

Mets Trade Idea Offloads Several MLB Players for Yordan Alvarez

GettyYordan Alvarez has arguably been the best MLB hitter in 2026.

If Yordan Alvarez is to be traded, it’s going to cost a lot.

In this trade proposal, the Mets offload Mark Vientos, Kodai Senga, and Tobias Myers in exchange for Yordan Alvarez. Alvarez is one of the best DHs in MLB and would be a very welcome addition to the Mets lineup.

The Astros, in dire need of pitching, acquire two MLB arms and an infield/outfield bat in Mark Vientos.

BR’s Zachary D. Rymer gives clear reasoning why Yordan could be moved, and why the Mets are at the top of the destination list:

49ers’ Fred Warner Hints at Stunning Return Against Seahawks

“With an average of 3.26 runs per game, the Mets are technically the lowest-scoring team in MLB. Nobody had that on their Bingo card for 2026. Granted, Juan Soto will get healthy eventually and there should be a lot more to gain from Francisco Lindor, Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco. The goal now nonetheless needs to be twofold: make up ground and keep working on making this a true World Series-caliber team.”

The Mets’ offense has hit such a low point that these are the types of speculative rumors that are surfacing.

Mets’ Trade Heavy Mindset May Lead to Rash Decisions

David Stearns and the New York Mets trade heavy mindset may lead to rash decisions, like offloading several players this season, which might not be a terrible idea at this point.

There have been no reports that the Astros actually want to move on from their lefty slugger Alvarez, but this rumor by BR’s Rymer could bring to light how badly New York needs a designated hitter.

As outlined in the article, Mets’ DHs this season have a collective .604 OPS and just two home runs.

The DH position is supposed to be one where you get a strong level of offensive production, but for the Mets, it’s been the exact opposite.
