Mets’ Carlos Mendoza Reveals Thoughts About Alex Cora Firing

Alex Cora is out as the Boston Red Sox manager. After a 10-17 start, the move by Boston has sent shockwaves across Major League Baseball.

As the New York Mets have struggled this season, their manager, Carlos Mendoza, was asked about his thoughts on the Alex Cora decision before the Mets take on the Colorado Rockies in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Per Max Goodman, here is what Carlos Mendoza had to say about the recent firing in MLB:

“We don’t have the details of what transpired there, but I have a lot of respect for him, I consider him one of the best managers in the league. But hey, it’s a business, right?”

There weren’t many follow-up questions after that, but the reason it’s newsworthy is that Carlos Mendoza could be next, and although his job seems to be secure from the public opinion’s perspective, this recent Alex Cora decision could spark more managerial firings across the league. Especially with the likes of Joe Girardi, Carlos Beltran, and Albert Pujols potentially wanting to manage.

Hell, it could even be Alex Cora that takes over for Carlos Mendoza if he’s fired.

As you can imagine, Carlos Mendoza’s comments on Alex Cora’s firing have sparked a rash reaction across social media from Mets/baseball fans.

Here are some of the best:

@thebenchesclear: “i understand that firing the manager is often a purely optical decision to satisfy fans who are angry at poor performance on the field, but some of you are acting like carlos mendoza’s managerial flaws aren’t incredibly observable and measurable”
@JakeBrownLive: “Heard last night that Carlos Mendoza is on the clock. He has not been able to stitch the new group together. They’re very fragmented and in silos. If Mets don’t get this turned around soon, he will be gone.”
@MarinoMLB: “I have no problem saying it: I think the Mets would upgrade at manager by firing Carlos Mendoza and hiring Alex Cora to replace him.”
It’s plausible to think that the Red Sox laid out the blueprint for an early-season managerial firing, and it could be the same situation in Queens. The Mets need a scapegoat, and David Stearns poor roster construction has led to a horrid start, and someone needs to take flak for it.
