Sam Burns is competing in the 2026 Masters Tournament while balancing a growing family life with his wife, Caroline Burns.
The five-time PGA Tour winner is making his fifth Masters appearance and remains a consistent presence in major tournaments. Off the course,
Burns has often credited Caroline for being a steady presence throughout his career.
As Burns continues his run at Augusta National, here is what to know about his wife, their relationship, and their family life.
Caroline Burns and Sam Burns’ Longtime Relationship
Caroline and Sam have known each other since they were children. The two met at church in Shreveport, Louisiana, when they were just 5 years old.
“We’ve really known each other forever,” Caroline told WJCL. “I was his first Valentine when we were 5 years old.”
Sam shared a similar memory, adding, “And then after that, she wanted nothing to do with me until about high school.”
Although they grew up in the same city, they attended different high schools before reconnecting in college at Louisiana State University. Their relationship began while Sam was a freshman and Caroline was a sophomore.
After four years of dating, Sam proposed on April 19, 2019, at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina. “I felt alright until about two minutes before I knew I was going to do it, and then I was kind of a train wreck,” he told WJCL about the moment.
Caroline described how the proposal unfolded, saying, “Right past the restaurant he just stopped me and started talking and then I knew, and then he got down on one knee.”
Shortly after, Sam shared the news publicly, writing, “She said yes, can’t wait to spend forever with this woman!”
Sam Burns’ Wife, Caroline’s Career and Life Off the Course
Caroline was born on April 8, 1996, and also grew up in Shreveport. At LSU, she studied marketing and was involved in student organizations, including Delta Delta Delta, where she served as director of social events.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 2018 and later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2020.
During college, Caroline gained experience through several internships and roles, including positions in marketing and sales, according to her LinkedIn profile.
She has remained supportive of Sam’s career, regularly attending tournaments such as the Masters and the Valspar Championship.
Speaking about watching him compete, she said she enjoys “being out here watching him do what he loves.”
The couple now lives in a small Louisiana community. Sam previously explained why they prefer that lifestyle, telling the PGA Tour site, “I’ve always loved the small-town feeling. Especially with what I do, it’s good for me to go there and get away.”
Sam and Caroline Burns’ Growing Family
Sam and Caroline welcomed their first child, a son named Bear, in April 2024, according to the official PGA website. The family has since made appearances together at events, including the Masters Par 3 Contest in 2025 and 2026.
As Sam prepared for fatherhood, he shared how he balanced family and competition. “I miss Caroline; I wish she was here, but it’s been fun, too. I know she wants me to be here,” he said during a Masters appearance.
He also joked about choosing their son’s name. “It was one area where I had some say,” Sam said, adding, “We both like the name. We wanted to do something a little different.”
The couple is now expecting their second child, due in July. Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis noted the timing during the April 9 episode of “Live From the Masters,“ saying, “Caroline, Sam Burns’ wife, well, they’re about to have their second child as well.”
As Sam continues to compete at the Masters, Caroline and their growing family remain central to his life both on and off the course.
