Max Homa Exposed as a Hypocrite After Embarrassing Meltdown

During the final round of the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, Max Homa threw his club in frustration after failing to chip out of the native area on the 15th hole. Normally, that would be a non-story. After all, golfers show their anger on the course all the time—even professionals.

Golf is a stressful, frustrating sport that breaks even the most mentally strong athletes in the world. Homa isn’t the first PGA Tour player to hurl a golf club in anger, and he won’t be the last. But based on his comments just four days before his on-course meltdown, the fan-favorite golfer exposed himself as a hypocrite.

Max Homa Thinks Golfers Look ‘Spoiled’ When They Throw Clubs

GettyMax Homa contradicted himself immediately after calling golfers “spoiled.”

Speaking ahead of the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C., Homa spoke about how he doesn’t like it when professional golfers throw temper tantrums on the course. The 35-year-old didn’t name names, but his comments came just a few days after Sergio Garcia slammed and snapped his driver on a cooler after a poor drive at the Masters.

“I don’t like when people break clubs. I don’t like when people beat up the golf course because we deal with it, and I think the breaking clubs makes us look very, very spoiled,” Homa told reporters on Wednesday. “I try my absolute best to not do it, and when it does happen, as far as slamming a tee box, I’m very upset with myself because we’re very lucky to play this game where we do, and I think it is a bad look.”

He’s not wrong about that. PGA Tour players get paid millions of dollars to play the best golf courses in the world, so lashing out after a bad shot makes it look as if they don’t appreciate the life they live.

Most players would agree with Homa’s stance on the matter. Unfortunately for him, he contradicted himself not even a week later.

Homa Lashes Out Days After Chastising Other PGA Tour Pros for Doing the Same

After calling out other players for their public meltdowns on the course, Homa did the exact same just a few days later. In the final round of the RBC Heritage, Homa flubbed a layup attempt from the native area on the 15th hole and immediately chucked his club in anger. The club bounced off the sand and hit a tree about 10 yards in front of the frustrated golfer.

Yeah, not the best timing for an outburst like that.

Again, this isn’t rare in the sports world. Baseball players slam or even break their bats after striking out. Football players slam their helmets on the bench in frustration all the time. Golfers, who play the most aggravating professional sport out there, break clubs and slam the ground almost every week.

Homa finished T69 in the 82-man field, so there was clearly some anger throughout the week that led to his club throw. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if he hadn’t criticized “spoiled” players for doing the same just four days prior.
