The death of a Florida man at Naval Station Great Lakes is under investigation after he was found unresponsive in the barracks Sunday, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.
Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire and Emergency Services and the Great Lakes Police Department responded about 12:15 p.m. to a medical call in the barracks of the base and found Joshua Jones, 19, unresponsive, the office said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner’s officials confirmed Jones was stationed at the base. Naval Station Great Lakes didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
An autopsy was conducted, a cause or manner of death has not yet been released. The Lake County coroner’s office said autopsy results were pending the completion of an expanded toxicology test.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating.
