Mandatory evacuations ordered for wildfire on Colorado’s Eastern Plains

A wildfire burning along Interstate 76 in Sedgwick County forced mandatory evacuations Friday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

The fire is burning near the intersection of Colorado 59 and I-76, and people living in the area need to evacuate immediately, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

Mandatory evacuations are also in effect for people living along Sedgwick County Road 18 to the south and County Road 19 to the east.

The sheriff’s office first posted about the mandatory evacuations at 5:54 p.m.

Colorado’s Eastern Plains are currently under a red flag warning for extreme fire danger from high winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service.

This is a developing story.
