Lakewood police officers fatally shot an armed man in La Quinta Inn Saturday after responding to reports of shots fired.
Officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, but fired on him when he came toward the officers instead, according to a Saturday news release from the Lakewood Police Department.
Around 7:15 a.m., Lakewood officers responded to reports of shots fired on the fifth floor of La Quinta Inn at 7190 West Hampden Avenue, the release stated.
When officers arrived, they found the armed suspect — a white man in his 40s — in the hallway and ordered him to drop his weapon, according to the release.
When the unidentified man failed to disarm himself and began approaching the officers, three Lakewood officers shot at and struck the suspect, the release stated.
Officers attempted medical aid, but the man died from his injuries at the scene.
