Man killed in Aurora dog park after explosion involving homemade fireworks

A man died overnight at a dog park in Aurora after an accidental explosion involving homemade fireworks, according to the Aurora Police Department in a Thursday morning X post.

Officers responded about 12:49 a.m. to the Grandview Dog Park near Quincy Reservoir after multiple people reported an explosion, police said.

At the park, officers found a man who had suffered fatal injuries.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded.

The Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement Network is investigating.
