The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday in North Fair Oaks, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Deputies were on their way to help Atherton police officers with a vehicle pursuit when they were flagged down by a woman who told them her daughter had just been abducted by the child’s father.

The sheriff’s office determined the cases were connected and notified surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Atherton officers and deputies ended up pursuing the vehicle until the driver pulled into the parking lot of the Budget Inn at 2526 El Camino Real, where the girl was initially kidnapped, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver was taken into custody without incident. The child, meanwhile, was uninjured and returned to her mother.

The suspect, a resident of Pacoima in Los Angeles, was booked into county jail on charges including kidnapping, child endangerment, false imprisonment and reckless evading.
