Officers were called to the 7-Eleven at 708 Colorado Ave. around 12:30 a.m. for a report of a robbery, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release. They searched the area but did not find the suspect.

Police said the suspect approached the clerk, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the register.

The clerk, a man in his 30s, complied with the suspect’s demands. The suspect then reached across the counter and stole an open box of cigars worth about $45, police said.

Police released a surveillance image of the suspect, which showed him wearing a dark face covering, a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, dark pants and dark shoes. The clerk described him as 25 to 30 years old.

The suspect was last seen running westbound through the store parking lot, police said.
