Betting odds are changing and shaking out closer to WrestleMania 42 to give us a better idea of the likely winners of WWE’s main events. Roman Reigns vs CM Punk and Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes are the two main events for each night to involve the two male world titles on the line. Both matches feature scenarios where it could make sense for either talent involved to leave that night with the respective world title.
However, betting odds show that both challengers Reigns and Orton are currently looking likely to win gold. Bet Online provided the following odds for each pivotal match on the biggest night of the year:
Roman Reigns: -250 odds to win
CM Punk: +170 odds to win
Randy Orton: -275 odds to win
Cody Rhodes: +185 odds to win
Punk and Rhodes winning their respective matches would not be that surprising since both are among the top faces in the company. Triple H has relied on each man to be the top babyface on Raw and Smackdown in the current brand split roster landscape. However, money is showing that fans and pundits fully expect Reigns and Orton to each become the new champions in the final match of each night.
Why Roman Reigns Winning Is Controversial
The potential of Reigns leaving as a world champion would upset many WWE fans since he’s a part-time performer. Roman only wrestles a handful of matches per year and only shows up on television when he’s selling an upcoming PPV match.
WWE would risk losing the top prize for Raw right after Punk added to the relatively new title’s credibility by defending it often as a fighting champion. History has shown Reigns and Brock Lesnar both having world title reigns as part-time champs. Polarizing results sees bigger PPV matches, but it hurts the overall weekly product.
Triple H must strongly believe in Roman having great stories to tell with the title and plans down the line that warrant sacrificing a few months of lackluster television. Punk will also come out looking worse after all the personal trash talk if it ends with a clean loss.
Orton’s Title Win Makes Perfect Sense
The historical number of 14 world title reigns only sees Orton behind John Cena and Ric Flair in WWE history. Orton and Triple H are currently tied for third place, so a big title win coming at WrestleMania 42 would help Randy’s chase for history.
WWE gets to add another title reign and set up Orton for the chance to break Cena’s record of 17 world title runs. A new heel character also sees it more likely that Orton defeats Rhodes since the former drastically changed course to start a new main event angle.
Betting sites strongly believe that Orton and Reigns will both become the new world champions, but odds have been wrong in the past. Both WrestleMania 42 main events hold strong appeal and will see WWE fans strongly invested in results. The two matches will feature arguably the four biggest stars in the company closing the biggest nights of the year.
