The Dallas Wings face a major decision with the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft and rumors continue to link UConn star Azzi Fudd as a top contender to be the selection. If the Wings draft Fudd, it would reunite the star with her former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers.
Hours before the Wings are on the clock, ESPN’s Michael Voepel projects that Fudd will be tabbed as the No. 1 pick. ESPN’s final WNBA mock draft has Fudd as the No. 1 pick with TCU point guard Olivia Miles and Spainish center Awa Fam also being in contention.
“With Fudd being an elite 3-point shooter, plus her growth as a defender, she should fit well with the Wings,” Voepel wrote in an April 13, 2026, story titled, “WNBA mock draft 2026: Azzi Fudd returns to projected No. 1.” “The other top guard in the draft, TCU’s Olivia Miles, was the No. 1 pick in last week’s mock, but she is projected to be selected very early.
“… Fudd was the Most Outstanding Player at the 2025 Final Four, but she didn’t have as strong an NCAA tournament this season. After a career-high 34 points, including eight 3-pointers, in the second round, Fudd totaled just 31 points on 12-of-39 shooting (30.8%) in her last three games,” Voepel added.
“She was 3-of-15 for eight points in the Huskies’ national semifinal loss to South Carolina. Still, she shot 42.2% from 3-point range in her college career. With her quick release and footwork, her shooting should continue to be important at the next level.”
WNBA Draft Odds Shifted as UConn’s Azzi Fudd Is a Heavy Favorite To Be Selected by Dallas Wings With No. 1 Pick
There are plenty of UConn fans rooting for Fudd to rejoin Bueckers in the WNBA. The two stars led UConn to a national championship in 2025.
It looks like fans could get their wish as the WNBA odds shifted on draft day to make Fudd even more of a heavy favorite to be the No. 1 pick.
“The top spot, owned by the Wings, has been a complete roller coaster over the past several weeks,” The Athletic’s Hannah Vanbiber detailed in an April 13, story titled, “WNBA Draft 2026 odds for the No. 1 pick: Azzi Fudd now a huge favorite over Awa Fam. “Odds for Spanish pro player Awa Fam and UConn’s March Madness star Azzi Fudd have been swapping back and forth.
“Fudd, a former teammate and the off-court partner of Wings superstar Paige Bueckers, seemed like the obvious choice to a casual fan. But to analysts and oddsmakers who knew of the Wings’ weak spots, Fam was a better fit,” Vanbiber continued.
“But as of Monday morning, Fudd has emerged as the strong favorite at -575 on DraftKings or an 85 percent probability, likely thanks to the Wings acquiring 6-foot-4 defensive ace Alanna Smith in free agency and other off-season moves.”
WNBA Mock Drafts Project Awa Fam & Lauren Betts Will Be Among the Top Picks
Fudd is now a -600 favorite to be the No. 1 pick, per FanDuel. Fam is a distant second at +650 with UCLA center Lauren Betts in third at +1200.
There is a lot to like about Fudd’s game heading into the WNBA, highlighted by her championship experience combined with three-point shooting. Fudd averaged 17.3 points, 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in 39 appearances for UConn during the 2025-26 WNBA season.
