No one was injured when a kitchen fire erupted at a Loop barbecue restaurant, sending smoke billowing through the roof of a high-rise building on Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the building at 17 N. Wabash Ave. at 9 a.m. after smoke was seen coming from the roof, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The fire started in Wilma’s Famous BBQ, which was on a lower floor. It was extinguished without anyone being hurt, the fire department said.
Firefighters inspected a ventilation shaft to make sure it was safe and the department did not authorize an evacuation, though some occupants may have left on their own.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
