The Detroit Lions already signed a former Carolina Panthers offensive lineman this offseason. Another ex-Panthers lineman, Brady Christensen, is also still available in NFL free agency.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton argued Wednesday the Lions could pursue Christensen as another offensive line addition.
Moton included the 29-year-old on a list of seven bargain free agents who could help an NFL team this fall. Moton also identified the Lions as one of two potential suitors for Christensen.
“Brady Christensen won’t turn 30 until September, so he makes the list of bargain-bin options who may still have some prime years left. The versatile offensive lineman has played all five of his seasons with the Carolina Panthers and lined up at all five spots within the front-line unit, mostly at left guard,” wrote Moton.
“Teams that need a plug-and-play guard or sixth offensive lineman who can fill voids wherever necessary should keep tabs on Christensen’s recovery timetable this summer.”
Christensen is rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon he sustained in October 2025. Last season, he appeared in eight games, starting four, before landing on injured reserve.
What Brady Christensen Could Bring to Lions
GettyBleacher Report’s Moe Moton named the Detroit Lions a potential suitor for free agent guard Brady Christensen.
Christensen hasn’t proven to be healthy yet, as he remains less than nine months removed from his Achilles injury. That’s likely why he is still a free agent.
But if healthy by the fall, Christensen could provide quality interior line depth to any NFL club.
The guard began his career as a third-round pick for Carolina in 2021. He started 34 contests over five seasons with the Panthers.
Christensen has posted average to good grades at Pro Football Focus throughout his career. He had his best grades at PFF in 2025 before his season-ending injury.
Last season, Christensen took all 285 of his regular season offensive snaps at right guard. In 2024, he played left tackle and center.
Early in his career, he started at both tackle spots and left guard.
Lions Offensive Line Upgrades From 2026 NFL Offseason
GettyDan Campbell and the Detroit Lions made the offensive line a priority during the 2026 NFL offseason.
Moton also named the Lions a potential suitor for cornerback Trevon Diggs. If Detroit addresses any position before training camp, cornerback would make the most sense given the recent release of former first-round pick Terrion Arnold.
The Lions added offensive linemen this spring through free agency, trades and the draft. That probably means the organization is done addressing the unit.
But the Lions have also clearly made the line a priority. Adding even more depth to a priority is never a bad idea.
In Detroit, Christensen could compete for opportunities at guard with youngsters Christian Mahogany and Tate Ratledge. Entering training camp, pundits expect Mahogany and Ratledge to start at left and right guard, respectively.
Mahogany is entering his third season with the team. The Lions added him in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Ratledge will be in his second NFL season. He started all 17 games as a rookie last fall.
However, Christensen doesn’t have to usurp one of those guards to be a quality addition for the Lions. Christensen could come off the bench and play anywhere if the Lions experience offensive line injuries in 2026.
Offseason additions Larry Borom, Juice Scruggs and Ben Bartch could be Detroit’s depth options off the bench for their offensive line this season. Pundits expect first-round pick Blake Miller to start at right tackle.
Christensen’s former teammate, Cade Mays, should start at center for Detroit.
