U.S. Supreme Court’s Colorado ballot decision
Re: “Trump allowed on Colorado ballot,” March 5 news story
Monday was a huge win for the Donald Trump campaign. That obvious fact was chronicled in many newspapers, including The Post, as well as numerous media outlets across the country. But as the late Paul Harvey might have pointed out, the rest of the story mostly escaped the narrative that it was a win for the “preservation of democracy.” Forgive me for trotting out this weary slogan, but the irony is too juicy.
One of the key tenets of a democracy is a judicial system that values procedural due process in the name of fairness. The former president and clear leader in the Republican primaries may still get his day in court and have to face the consequences for “engaging in an insurrection.” First someone is going to have to actually charge, try, and convict him. Why are there no takers?
“I’ve always said… it’s up to the people to save democracy in November,” Secretary of State Jenna Griswold said. No, Griswold, you haven’t. Letting the voters have their say? What a concept!
These days, when expressing an opinion on anything with the word “Trump” in it, I’m duty-bound to state that I didn’t vote for the former president in Tuesday’s Republican primary, in order to dodge immediate rejection as one of those damn deplorables. It’s fair to wonder how many potential Trump voters chose either not to vote or for Nikki Haley on Tuesday because long before the primary, the Colorado Supreme Court decided Trump was ineligible. The danger of early voting rules, but that’s another letter.

Thanks to our Colorado Supreme Court judges who judiciously saw that insurrectionists are not allowed to run for federal offices by clear language in the 14th Amendment. Unfortunately, our state judges did not have the benefit of special glasses. Now we know the U.S. Supreme Trump Court has those devices. Those glasses allowed Supreme Court judges to read an invisible ink clause that said the 14th Amendment could only be enforced by Congress.

This ballot issue should never have gone this far. The decision was 9-0! What does that tell you about the Colorado Supreme Court? It tells me they are all Democrats and inept. They should all have egg on their faces.

The left (which includes the media) is throwing everything they can possibly throw to keep Donald Trump from being elected president. Let the people decide. That’s the Democratic way.
