The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into the first round of their playoff series against the Houston Rockets as underdogs, but that won’t stop LeBron James from giving it his all, because that’s what he does, and his son Bronny James may be with him.
James is among the most celebrated players in NFL history thanks to his physicality on the court, precision and high basketball IQ, but when it comes down to it, he’s really the best because of one skillset, and that’s winning games. So, the NBA experts already calling this series for Houston may be in for a rude awakening.
Aside from the on-court actions, the playoffs may offer an even more special moment for James than a playoff series win. He and Bronny may take the court together during the series.
LeBron James and Bronny James May Get Minutes on the Court Together Against the Houston Rockets
Bronny James is trying to make a case for himself to appear in the Lakers’ oh-so important series against the Rockets, and he did just that during Los Angeles’ regular season finale against the Utah Jazz. In that game, which the Lakers won with a 131-107 final score, Bronny played for 19 minutes, serving up 11 points and shooting 4-of-7 from the field, according to ESPN research. He also clocked on steal. So, it’s fair to say that Bronny proved himself in that final game and earned minutes in the playoff series.
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick tapped Bronny early in the game, showing confidence in him, and the young player delivered.
In a Monday, April 13 feature for The Lake Show Life, Svyatoslav Rovenchuk says that Bronny has earned his spot in the playoff series. “James immediately rewarded his coach’s faith in him after the third quarter start,” Rovenchuk states in the piece. “Bronny played all 12 minutes in the frame and collected his entire scoring output, notching those aforementioned 11 points, in the third.”
He added, “Another strong showcase makes James an easy frontrunner for the ninth man in the rotation. It certainly is not an open-and-shut case, but there is a ton of reason to believe that spot is his.”
Bronny James is a ‘Favorite’ to Appear in the Playoffs Alongside LeBron James
Rovenchuk even says that Bronny is now a “favorite” to play in the playoffs, inching out the other benched candidates.
“Redick has until Saturday to decide whether Bronny or Smith gets the initial crack at providing those guard minutes off the bench for his team in their first-round matchup against the Houston Rockets,” he adds in the piece. “If the season-ending stretch has provided the right intel, James looks to be the favorite as of now.”
So, will Bronny and LeBron take the court together in a father and son moment during the series against the Rockets? I honestly see it happening. Bronny has worked his way up in the NBA, from the G League to now, and the timing is right. From a ratings standpoint, it’s pure gold, too. Watching this father and son duo take the court together will make for great playoff TV.
