The Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets are up against each other once again on Wednesday, April 29, as they head into Game 5 of their NFL playoff series, with the Lakers have the edge at 3-1.
It’s do or die for the Rockets, and if LeBron James has anything to do with it, which he will, this series will be over tonight with the Lakers advancing to the next round of the playoffs.
There are plenty of superstars on both of these teams, including James, Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic for the Lakers and Kevin Durant, Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun for the Rockets. Now, some comments that James previously made about the Thompson twins are resurfacing right before showtime.
LeBron James’ Comments on Thompson Twins Resurface Before Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets Game 5
Amen and Ausar Thompson are twins who were both selected in the 2023 NBA Draft. Amen plays for the Rockets, while Ausar is on the Detroit Pistons‘ squad. Amen was drafted 4th overall by the Rockets, and Ausar was drafted 5th overall by the Pistons.
Amen and Ausar being back-to-back picks still feels a little unreal when you think about it. That moment meant the same bloodline, same draft night and two different roads opening at once. You don’t see that often, and when you do, it’s fascinating. There’s something raw about it, like the league letting a family story play out in real time. It’s not just a cool stat. It’s a reminder of how thin the line is between paths and how special it is when two guys cross it together.
James respects the Thompson twins. Ahead of Game 5, the NBA shared a clip of James talking about the two players.
“They different. They ain’t like the rest of us,” he says in the clip, which dates back to 2025. “Those two guys man, they’re just pure athleticism.”
“King James hyping the Thompson twins like that just shows their raw power on the court,” one follower stated on X in response to the post.
“Amen Thompson heard LeBron compliment him and is about to make him regret the kind words in Game 5,” another said.
“LeBron James giving that kind of praise tells you everything those Thompson twins are different,” one more added.
“LeBron called them different and now has to guard one of them tonight. Words coming back around fast,” another commented.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers Could Take It in Game 5
So, there’s respect here, and let’s face it: LeBron knows how to hype up the league. His comments from last year being dug up again feels right and it sets the stage for tonight.
They were underdogs going into the matchup, but this could be the night the Los Angeles Lakers close the door. They’ve got the rhythm, the experience and that familiar late-game calm, even with Doncic out. One clean stretch, a couple stops and it’s over. James has been to the playoffs more times than I can count, and that veteran experience is showing off in the calm and cool way he’s leading this team.
