Like every past NBA offseason, this year promises not to be different with lots of trade rumors, speculations and proposals.Â
One wild proposal has pitched Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Lakers. In return, Boston gets Austin Reaves and the Lakersâ 25th pick in the draft.Â
According to Lakers Nationâs Trevor Lane, if such a trade for Brown becomes plausible, the Lakers shouldnât hesitate.
âIn an instant, you do that no question,â Lane said of trading for Brown. âBut once again keep in mind, Auston has to be signed and traded, heâs going to want to go to where you are sending him.â
Reaves holds a player option for next season which he might decline to enter unrestricted free agency and seek a much larger deal.
A deal with Boston for Brown is the kind of franchise-altering move the Lakers may need in the Luka Doncic era.
GettyGeneral manager Rob Pelinka touched no offseason plans to build around Luka Doncic.
Lakers to Go for Major Star Next to Luka Doncic?
The deal sounds almost too good to be true. Brown is a former NBA champion and Finals MVP, which are notable accolades that keep him high in the conversation of top wings in the league.Â
Brownâs two-way game is one of the best and Doncic is all too familiar with it. I. In the 2024 NBA Finals, he was guarded primarily by Brown and couldnât replicate his scoring form that took the Dallas Mavericks to the showpiece.
For a move to happen in the proposed trade, Reaves will have to be dealt. The guard enjoyed a strong career-high season as he stepped up as a key secondary piece. His game has clearly improved but at the moment, he doesnât offer the championship-level co-star needed for a serious title push alongside Doncic.
That is the kind of level Brown will bring to L.A. At 29, he is still well into his prime and can complement Doncic just as he does with Jayson Tatum.
The Boston Factor in Trading for Brown

This season, Brown shouldered the major load for the Celtics. Tatum was out recovering from the Achilles injury he suffered in the playoffs last year. He returned in March but by then, Boston already had a playoff spot locked in.
Brown put up career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. He was in MVP form which many didnât see that side of his game until then.
To Boston, Brown is untouchable just like Tatum, but if and itâs a big if, they want to move any of those stars, Brown is highly projected to be the one. Tatum might not have been available for the majority of the season but he is viewed as the franchise face.
If there is a possibility that Brownâs era at Boston comes to an end, it seems unlikely he would want to be yet another co-star. He has shown that he can lead as the main guy and that will be on his mind whenever trade talks arise.Â
The Lakersâ fantasy trade might not end in the way they want. However, the NBA is not new to bold and unpredictable moves.Â
