Lakers Grant Luka Doncic Special Wish Amid Injury Absence: Report

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly granted Luka Doncic his wish of traveling to Slovenia to visit his two daughters.

Doncic, who flew to Madrid, Spain, last week for treatment on his injured hamstring, is currently in Ljubljana, according to the Slovenian outlet Ekipa. Per the report, the Lakers are fully supportive of Doncic’s decision to fly to his home country.

“…He came to Slovenia to visit his two daughters, whom he has not seen for several months,” read the report published on April 11.

“It is clear that Dončić also received the blessing of the Los Angeles Lakers, who of course, support Luka in every decision he makes. From going to Madrid for treatment, to traveling to Slovenia for a short time in between two series of therapies.”

Lakers Grant Luka Doncic’s Wish

The Lakers reportedly believe that Doncic’s visit to his home country of Slovenia will buoy his spirits and aid his recovery process.

“The Lakers are aware that the mental well-being of their first star is just as important as the physical,” read the report.

“And it is clear that Dončić’s association with his two children will fill his soul and heart and have a beneficial effect on his mental state.”

As the report noted, Doncic had not seen his daughters since his split from his fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, earlier this year. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported last month that Doncic was in a heated custody battle over his two daughters.

“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Doncic said in a statement issued to ESPN. “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”

Luka Doncic Injury Update

Ekipa’s report further confirmed that Doncic received his first round of stem cell-based therapy in Madrid from Real Madrid sports doctor Javier Barrio before he took a quick pit stop to Slovenia to be with his family.

“After injuring his hamstring, Luka Dončić boarded a plane and traveled to Europe. There were hints as to where he would go. There was talk of Switzerland, Germany, and even Slovenia, but it quickly became clear that Luka traveled to Spain.

“And that he embarked on special stem cell therapies under the watchful eye of Spanish doctor Javier Barrio, who works for Luka’s former club, Real Madrid.”

Doncic will return to Madrid in the coming days for a second round of stem cell therapy for his hamstring strain. He will then return to Los Angeles midweek.

The Lakers are operating under the assumption that Doncic won’t be medically cleared in time for the first round of the playoffs, which gets underway next weekend. However, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne has hinted that there’s a chance Doncic could return for the latter half of a first-round playoff series against either the Rockets or Timberwolves.
