Knicks Get Hopeful News On OG Anunoby Injury After Game 2 Exit

Amid their Game 2 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks saw star forward OG Anunoby leave the contest with an apparent hamstring injury.

Anunoby, who has been arguably the most important player for the Knicks through their first eight playoff games, did not return to the game, and head coach Mike Brown did not have an initial injury update on him.

Anunoby finished the night with 24 points on 9/17 shooting, including five rebounds, two assists, and four steals in 37 minutes, but his late-game injury remains a big issue for the Knicks going forward in their series against the 76ers.

GettyATLANTA, GEORGIA – APRIL 23: Og Anunoby #8 of the New York Knicks reacts after drawing a foul against the Atlanta Hawks during the third quarter of game three of the Eastern Conference first round playoffs at State Farm Arena on April 23, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia.

New York hasn’t offered an official Anunoby injury update, and until they do, reports about his status going forward remain speculation.

However, based on what one Knicks reporter had to say about his injury, it might not be as bad as initially expected. According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, the fact that Anunoby didn’t go down right away after suffering the injury in the fourth quarter could mean that it’s only a minor issue.

“Not a doctor and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn but if it’s a hammy injury it’s a good sign OG continued to play though it — even if only very briefly,” he wrote on X after the Knicks’ Game 2 win. “My experience seeing hamstring injuries is the worst ones tend to leave the players unable to continue immediately.”

Still, until the Knicks offer an official update, the full extent of Anunoby’s lower-body injury remains to be seen, as even Brown wasn’t able to offer a postgame update.

“It looked like he was hopping, but I don’t know anything,” Brown said, per Vincent Goodwill of ESPN. “They haven’t told me. I just know he left the game. Nobody said he was back. I haven’t talked to anybody yet.”

New York players Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns also weren’t aware of the full scope of Anunoby’s injury after the game. Both said that they ‘don’t know’ about his status going forward after his early Game 2 exit.

“We’ll see what it is, but it’s next man up,” Mikal Bridges added after the win.

While the Knicks could be without Anunoby for a period due to the apparent hamstring injury, he will be missed, as the 28-year-old has been a key factor through New York’s first few postseason games.

In their series win over the Atlanta Hawks, he averaged 21.5 points and 8.7 rebounds on 61.1/56.7/77.4 shooting splits, including scoring 29 points in Game 3 and the close-out Game 6 win.

Through the first two games against Philadelphia, he put up an average of 21 points, four rebounds, and two assists on an even better 64% shooting from the field, while still being one of the Knicks’ main anchors on the defensive end of the floor.

Miles McBride could be one player who steps up if the Knicks are without Anunoby going forward, and though he said he would be prepared for an increased role in the second round, even he knows the value the 2019 champion brings to New York’s roster.

“He’s one of the best two-way players in the league so it’s tough to replace that but you don’t replace him with one guy,” McBride said, per Ian Begley of SNY. “Everyone is going to have to step up.”

For now, the Knicks have yet to announce an official Anunoby injury update, putting his status for Game 3, and the rest of the series, in question.

New York holds a 2-0 lead, and Game 3 against the 76ers will come on Friday, May 8, with tipoff set for 7 pm EST and the matchup will be live on Amazon Prime Video.
