King Green Reveals Who He Wants Next After UFC 328

Veteran UFC lightweight fighter King Green revealed who he wants to fight next following a fantastic performance at UFC 328.

Green submitted fellow Octagon vet Jeremy Stephens in the opening main card bout to pick up his third straight win in the UFC. Green is having a late-career surge at age 39, and it’s great to see, as he is one of the most exciting lightweight fighters in the division.

King Green Calls Out Renato Moicano

With three straight wins, including back-to-back finishes over Stephens and Daniel Zellhuber, King Green is likely due for a top-15 opponent his next time out.

Speaking to reporters following UFC 328, Green was asked who he wants to fight next. He made it clear that he is all about making money at this point in his career, so the fight that he wants next is against Renato Moicano, the No. 9-ranked lightweight who, ironically, is nicknamed “Money” as he also loves cash just like Green does. That being said, he’ll take anyone who gets him paid.

“My check’s still going to be my check, it don’t change nothing. Regardless of who sits in front of me, the check’s the check, you have the contract. A name (opponent)? That sounds dope. I don’t give a (expletive), bro, I’m going to real with you. I would like to fight Moicano, he said he’s looking for a game. (Expletive) it, let’s go scrap, you know? But I’m just taking this (expletive) one day at a time, whoever they stick in front of me,” Green said.

Green Has Had an Underrated UFC Career

King Green came to the UFC after the promotion bout out Strikeforce in 2012, and ever since then, he has had a fantastic career inside the Octagon. He holds a 16-12-1, 1 NC record all-time in the UFC, with notable wins over Jim Miller, Grant Dawson, Tony Ferguson, Nasrat Haqparast, Al Iaquinta, Clay Guida, Josh Thomson, and James Krause. Yes, he does have double-digit losses in the UFC, but he has consistently been fighting the best fighters in the world for well over a decade now.

With his current three-fight win streak, there is no doubt that Green is deserving of a step up in competition, and his callout of Moicano makes a ton of sense. As well, Green has taken to social media to tease that he may have a fight booked just two days after beating Stephens at UFC 328, so perhaps the matchmakers have obliged and given him Moicano, the name he wants next, or someone else.

We shall see if and when Green does have a fight booked, but given that he took no damage at all against Stephens, a quick turnaround shouldn’t be completely ruled out for his next UFC bout.

Taking a look at the UFC calendar, a fight between Green and Moicano for UFC 329 in July would make a ton of sense as they are both quality fighters who deserve to compete on a big card. Although it’s not officially announced yet, that card is expected to have UFC superstar Conor McGregor make his return to the sport after five years away from it against rival Max Holloway.
