What a time to be a fan of the Seattle Seahawks. Following a riveting win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game, the Seahawks and running back Kenneth Walker III are tearing it up in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8.
With his performance against the New England Patriots, Walker is making his case to get paid. His four-year, $8.44 million rookie contract with the Seahawks expires in March 2026, and if they don’t resign him, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. His deal, according to research from Spotrac, included a $3.32 million signing bonus and $6.14 million guaranteed.
The Seattle Seahawks would have to be delusional not to sign Walker again, but before this season, it was a question. Now, not so much. During Super Bowl LX, the team sent a clear message to the former Michigan State University player that he’s part of the future of the franchise.
Kenneth Walker III of the Seattle Seahawks Gets a Message
Sure, the first half of the game was slow, but Walker didn’t disappoint. He helped get his team close enough to score four field goals, giving the Seattle Seahawks a 12-0 lead at half.
Walker’s efforts weren’t lost on the Seattle Seahawks. To summarize the first half of Super Bowl LX, the Seahawks took to social media to post a gallery of photo highlights, and the first one had Walker, aka K9, as the lead photo.
“Walker for MVP,” one follower stated on the post. “Jason Myers,” another added, since Myers made all the points in the first half. “We need to keep feeding K9,” another said.
This wasn’t the first time the team has praised Walker on social media. Walker is certainly one of the bright spots in the Seahawks’ lineup, and they know it. Leading up to the game, the team took to social media to share Walker’s impressive numbers from the NFC Championship game. “K9 doing K9 things,” they shared, along with his stats of 19 rushes, 62 yards and one touchdown.
Also, on the Seahawks’ official website, they announced, “Kenneth Walker III joins two other Seahawk legends as a key RB force who boosted the Seahawks to a Super Bowl berth. He totaled 111 yards from scrimmage in the second win of the season over the rival Rams, and he opened the scoring with a two-yard TD run at 9:57 of the first quarter.”
Kevin Walker III of the Seattle Seahawks Talks Game Prep
So, how did Walker prep for the big game? “I feel like I was going to feel fresh either way, working on my routines and sleeping and eating well,” Walker said, according to the team’s official website.
Also, how does it feel to have helped the team win its first NFC Championship in 11 years? “It means a lot,” Walker said. “Because we harp on the run game a lot, and during the season, we really wanted to help the pass game. It means a lot to see our work paying off.”
It’s not just Walker. Darnold is also, of course, making waves. After the NFC Championship win, the Seattle Seahawks reposted an announcement from NFL on Prime Video stating that Darnold has made NFL history. The signal-caller is the first starting quarterback from the class of 2018 to reach the Super Bowl, according to NFL research.
