Karl-Anthony Towns Gives Major Credit to Knicks Fans After Game 4 Win in Atlanta

The New York Knicks pulled out a much-needed 114-98 road win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday to tie the first round series between the two teams at two games apiece.

While the game technically took place in Atlanta, there was no shortage of Knicks fans in attendance, and they were a boisterous bunch.

After the game, Knicks star center Karl-Anthony Towns gave some major credit to the Knicks faithful for traveling so well and providing the team with extra energy, even on the road.

“Knicks fans travel all around the world. I already knew how special the Knicks fans were from last year, but to be going to Adu Dhabi in preseason and see the place packed with Knicks fans was crazy,” Towns said.

“They travel around the world. They bring so much love and energy and passion. You could just feel that kind of passion in the building, and it helps us feel like every game we play, no matter if it’s away or in Abu Dhabi, around the world, it’s a home game.”

Fueled by the fan support, Towns turned in his best game of the series so far, and probably one of the most well-rounded playoff performances of his career, in Game 4. Towns tallied his first career postseason triple-double – 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists – in the victory.

“It means a lot,” Towns said of his Game 4 performance. “Like Magic [Johnson], I always talk about impact and winning, and to be able to amplify my teammates is one of the greatest honors. … I just feel like opportunities presented themselves, and my teammates made it happen today. They made great cuts and allowed me to make those plays.”

Towns might have had some extra motivation heading into Game 4, as a recent report from Vincent Goodwill of ESPN suggested that his future in New York could depend on his playoff production. Towns has made it clear that he wants to remain with the Knicks.

“Executives around the league believe Towns would be the key to the Knicks chances to topple the conference favorites. If they can’t, many front office members around the league also believe New York will survey the market for Towns trades this summer,” Goodwill wrote. “… There has always been smoke around Towns and his future with the Knicks. And this summer, expect it to billow.”

If Towns can continue to turn in performances like that one he had in Game 4, he would force the Knicks to think twice about potentially moving on from him over the offseason.
