Kai Trump is navigating a critical stretch in both her golf career and personal life as she prepares for her freshman season with the University of Miami. The 18-year-old golfer recently shared details about her recovery from wrist surgery, offering insight into the physical and mental challenges she faces ahead of her return to competition.
In a new YouTube vlog, Trump discussed the lingering effects of the procedure she underwent in January to repair damage to the stabilizing tissues of her ECU tendon and triangular fibrocartilage complex. Her comments come at a pivotal time, as she works toward regaining full strength before joining Miamiâs golf program later this year.
At the same time, her family has remained in the spotlight, with ongoing attention surrounding her mother Vanessa Trumpâs, relationship with Tiger Woods. The overlap of personal developments and competitive preparation has added another layer to an already demanding period for the young golfer.

Trump provided a candid update on her recovery process, highlighting both progress and ongoing concerns. She explained that while her forearm has gotten stronger, limitations remain.
âIâm feeling good,â Trump said in her vlog. âI can putt 18 holes, but definitely cannot hit a shot. I donât know. That is my biggest wrist concern. Thatâs my biggest fear.â
She added, âMy forearm has gotten a lot stronger. It is still so small, but it has gotten a lot stronger. That is why my shoulder has been hurting a lot; there is no weight, so it is uneven.â
The injury timeline dates back to November, when she initially attempted to manage it with casting. After two months without improvement, surgery became necessary.
âI had surgery on January 6th,â she said. âI originally hurt it in November, but I tried casting it because I thought it was going to heal. Obviously, it didnât heal for two months.â
Trump has yet to resume full golf activity. As of mid-April, she confirmed she had not picked up a club since the procedure.
âToday is April 18th, and I still havenât touched a club since then,â she said. âI can putt eighteen holes, but I definitely cannot hit a shot.â
She is targeting a return to full play by July, adjusting expectations from an earlier goal tied to her birthday in May.
âIâm hoping I can start playing again full-time by July. I think thatâs a good, realistic time frame,â Trump said.
Despite the setback, her amateur résumé remains strong. She posted runner-up and top-three finishes across multiple junior events, including the 2025 Major Championship at Village Golf Course and the 2024 Martin County Junior Open. Miami head coach Janice Olivencia emphasized her potential, stating, âKai will bring tremendous energy and excitement to Miami.â

Trumpâs recent appearance at the Masters added further visibility to her journey. While attending Augusta National, she experienced a health scare after developing an allergic reaction.
âI started getting like these bumps on my neck,â she said, explaining that using hand soap to remove makeup triggered the reaction. She later received medical treatment, including a steroid, and confirmed that the issue has since resolved.
âIt was so, so scary,â she said in the vlog.
The trip also included time around top players, with Rory McIlroy securing the tournament win. Trump continues to gain exposure to elite-level golf environments as she transitions toward collegiate competition.
Off the course, attention has also centered on her family dynamics. Her mother, Vanessa Trump, has been linked with Tiger Woods, one of golfâs most prominent figures. Woodsâ situation has drawn additional public interest, including reports of legal issues earlier this year and his ongoing recovery process.
Despite the external noise, Trumpâs focus remains on her development as a golfer. She previously stated her long-term outlook clearly: âThe more golf I play, the better Iâll do. Getting experience. Miami gave me a great opportunity, and Iâm really looking forward to that.â
As she continues rehabilitation, the coming months will be critical. Her ability to return to full strength by the summer could determine how quickly she adjusts to the collegiate level.
For now, Trump remains in recovery mode, balancing physical progress, competitive ambitions, and increased public attention, all while preparing for the next phase of her golf career.
