The 2026 Winter Olympics are taking place in Milan, Italy, and during the Games, Jutta Leerdam won her first Olympic gold medal in the women’s 1,000 meter speed skating final. Leerdam and Jake Paul have been officially dating and in a relationship since April 2023, and now, they’re engaged.
Paul was in the crowd and the event and seen filled with emotion and excitement. The race consisted had 15 heats, and Leerdam competed in the final heat with the defending Olympic and world champion, Miho Takagi of Japan. Before the event, Paul sent out a message on social media encouraging his fiancé, writing, “Today is your day baby. You’ve worked your whole life for this. We all love and support you so much go get ’em champ.”

As Jutta Leerdam was busy training and becoming one of the best speed skaters in the world, Paul slid into her Instagram DMs. So, yes, they met on social media.
“Jake sent me a DM on Instagram and asked if I wanted to be on his podcast,” she said in the documentary “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson.” She added, “And I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it. Can be good, can be nice.’”
She says love caught her by surprise, adding in the documentary, “I never, ever expected to date him, like never. Of course, I didn’t know a lot about him. I could only scroll on his Instagram and form an opinion like the whole world does. But he is the complete opposite.”
She Thought His Flirting Was ‘Weird’ at First
Even Jake Paul can be awkward, apparently. As the Olympics website states, “Leerdam had her reservations, assuming Paul would be, well, Jake Paul — the brash internet personality who thrived on controversy. And to be fair, when Jake tried to flirt, it was, in his own words, ‘weird.’”
Well, weird worked, and now, these two are one of the hottest couples in sports.
They Went Instagram Official in April 2023
The two kept communicating and started to realize that they had a lot in common. “We really clicked in these two fast-paced worlds on a deep and super personal level,” Leerdam said, according to the Olympics website. “Their bond became undeniable, and in April 2023, Paul did what any modern boyfriend would do: he ‘hard-launched’ their relationship on Instagram with the caption, ‘I’m Dutch now.’”
Both are superstars in their sports and online. Leerdam and Paul were already social media sensations before they started dating, but after they became a couple, they became even bigger.
They’ve Had to Do Things Long Distance
Both Leerdam and Paul have busy schedules, and they’re both on the road a lot. So, they’ve had to do a lot of long-distance relationship things to keep the relationship going.
But, through it all, they’ve been there for each other. She’s showed up at his matches, and he’s at her Olympic events.
In “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson,” he said that she’s “the most amazing woman there is” and “a superwoman.”
“Not only is she the most beautiful, but she’s an Olympic athlete, six-time world champion, and the sweetest soul in the world,” he added.
