The Philadelphia 76ers‘ season will be on the line in Game 5 on Tuesday. After a season that included Joel Embiid publicly calling out the team’s front office, one has to imagine that there is some pressure up top over the next few days.
The speculation on that front will continue to live on, especially considering Embiid dodged a question related to the front office on Sunday night.
Following a 76ers blowout loss against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 at home, Embiid was asked about his relationship with Daryl Morey and the front office. The veteran center went on with a long-winded answer, but totally went around the topic.
What Did Joel Embiid Say?

“Weâre in the playoffs, weâre down 3-1, so thatâs what weâre focused on. We try to do the best job possible to try to make sure I get back on the court, but the focus is on the playoffs, trying to find a way to win one at a time,” Embiid told reporters. “Down 3-1, itâs been done before. Going out in Boston is gonna be tough, thatâs a really good team, we know what we do well, we know some of the mistakes we made tonight, so now itâs on us to try to figure out how to fix them.”
The veteran center continued on about how the season wasn’t a disaster, but it could’ve been a lot better. The star center wants to take it one game at a time, as a loss ends the Sixers’ season, and a win only buys them one more game in round one.
The message was clear, and it was necessary for a desperate 76ers team. But it didn’t answer the question regarding Embiid’s relationship with the front office. What do the fans think about the approach?

Here are some fan reactions to the quote on X:
HarrisMooreMM: But couldâve been better thatâs on Daryl Morey for having Gordon, Lowry, Drummond, Payne, Broome and Grimes.
Shankar02: I donât know how to take this. Cause talking about Morey right now seems pretty irrelevant, and so his non-answer appropriate. Or are we meant to imply that his non-answer is insinuating a deeper fracturing of that relationship?
StefanBuczko: Sounds like Joel hates Daryl Morey more than I do.
AmericaoverISR: Ownership has always been the villain and failure that national, local, and social media make embiid out to be.
DxRelish: next year when Morey and Nurse are gone and everybody is legit healthy the #sixers will be great IF we get the right coach and gm.
Embiid’s response can be taken one of two ways.
The center was simply either rerouting the question because he wants to keep the focus solely on the series at hand. Or, the relationship remains impaired, and he doesn’t see a need to speak on it, while drama would only hurt their chances of keeping the series alive.
Soon enough, time will tell as the 76ers could enter a critical offseason, depending on how the rest of their playoff run shakes out.
