The California Congressional District 16 race is now as close as it can get as Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian pulled back into second and now has a one-vote lead on his opponent Assemblymember Evan Low.
After being ahead by three votes yesterday, Low on Thursday didn’t pick up any new votes in the latest round of results, while Simitian picked up four — two in Santa Clara County and two in San Mateo County. Only 24 ballots relating to the race were counted.
Low and Simitian are competing for the second spot in the November runoff after former San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo locked in his spot last week with a roughly 8,000 vote lead over Low and Simtian.
On Thursday, Santa Clara County said it had 1,025 ballots still left to be counted, though 1,000 of those have been challenged because of signature issues or other problems. San Mateo County has 633 uncounted ballots, with 629 of them challenged.
Voters have until April 2 to remedy the challenged ballots.
