Joe Bowen Delivers Emotional Farewell to Leafs Fans After Final Home Game

Joe Bowen delivered an emotional farewell to Leafs Nation after calling his final Toronto Maple Leafs home game. Bowen shared his fond memories and expressed gratitude toward the fans for their kindness over the years.

Bowen, 75, called his final home game at Scotiabank Arena last night. He will call his final ‘Battle of Ontario’ game when the Leafs take on the Ottawa Senators tomorrow night. That will mark the end of his legendary broadcast career and 44-year tenure as the Leafs play-by-play announcer.

Bowen has been beloved by the fans and is known for his catchphrase, ‘Holy Mackinaw!’ While the Leafs have struggled this season, the organization did a great job honoring their longtime voice. Last December, he was honored during a special ‘Holy Mackinaw Night,’ which included a video tribute featuring Leafs legends.

Bowen received a standing ovation during last night’s game, and the Leafs players saluted him afterward. The longtime Leafs voice shared his emotional farewell as he signed off from Scotiabank Arena for the final time.

“There is no question that this fan base is the most unique in hockey and in all of sports. Regardless of where they play, Leaf fans make their presence felt in overwhelming numbers,” Bowen said. “To all the Leaf fans that have stopped me to share a moment and offer congratulations, I cannot thank you enough. You are without question the most unique, loyal, supportive fan base in all of sports.”

He added: “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your drive, or bringing us into your living room, rec room or man cave. I will forever be in your debt, and I never, ever forget your kindness and constant support over the last 44 years.”
