The New York Jets let one of their free agents go to a cross-town rival.
NFL Insider Aaron Wilson shared on social media that veteran linebacker Cam Jones is signing with the New York Giants in free agency. The team later confirmed the move.
An Intriguing Dart Throw That Didn’t Pan Out
Jones, 26, will turn 27 during the 2026 season. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
He spent the first two and a half seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Jones won a Super Bowl ring during his tenure.
In August, the Jets claimed him off waivers when the Chiefs cut ties. The 6-foot-2, 227-pound linebacker was considered a potential hidden gem.
Despite that potential, the Jets never really saw it come to fruition. Jones appeared in 10 games but never made a start. The only meaningful stat he accomplished was registering five total tackles, one of those being solo.
Jones played all of four defensive snaps, but was a much larger contributor on special teams. He appeared in 62% of the special teams snaps, per Pro Football Reference.
A Former Jets Pass Catcher Is on the Move
Veteran wide receiver Elijah Moore has signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
Moore, 25, will turn 26 before the start of the 2026 season. He entered the league as the No. 34 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft.
The former Ole Miss product spent the first two years of his career with the Jets. Moore was a projected first-round pick in that class who happened to fall to the second round.
During his run in New York, Moore was targeted 142 times and caught 80 receptions for 984 receiving yards and scored six touchdowns. Talent has never been the problem for Moore; it has always been extracurricular activities.
Amid a winning streak, Moore complained about his lack of usage. That rubbed fans and his teammates the wrong way. He got into an expletive-shouting match with the then-offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur in practice that got him sent home. Eventually, Moore requested a trade, and the team made it happen during the 2023 offseason.
Over the last three years, Moore has been on five teams. He started with the Jets, was traded to the Cleveland Browns, signed with the Buffalo Bills, got cut, and then signed with the Denver Broncos, and now he is on the Eagles.
The Boys Are Back in Town
This offseason has been a homecoming for former Jets players returning to the green and white.
Geno Smith and Demario Davis being Jets isn’t news on March 24. However, their jersey numbers have been confirmed, and they should be familiar to Jets fans.
According to the social media account “NFL Jersey Numbers,” Smith will be repping No. 7 in 2026. That jersey was most recently assigned to Justin Fields. He was traded this offseason to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2027 sixth-rounder.
