Jaguars-Chiefs Trade Idea Pairs Brian Thomas Jr. with Patrick Mahomes for Jaylen Watson, Draft Capital

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of production to replace after losing a handful of strong contributors in NFL free agency, like Devin Lloyd, Trevor Etienne, and more. With the rumors swirling around Brian Thomas Jr’s trade status, and reports that former No.2 overall pick Travis Hunter may only play on the defensive side of the ball. Paired with Thomas’s dip in production last season, a trade might be best for both parties, and it could result in the Jaguars landing impactful offensive players in the upcoming NFL draft.

Per SI.com’s Thomas Carelli, the Jaguars are being linked in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs that would pair Thomas Jr. with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, and would send Jacksonville the No. 9 overall pick in the upcoming draft, along with CB Jaylen Watson and a 2027 3rd round pick.

Should the Jaguars Part Ways with Brian Thomas Jr.?

Per Carelli, this trade idea is based on the fact that the Chiefs need another playmaker on offense and another weapon for Patrick Mahomes:

“The Chiefs shall be willing to splash for upgraded offensive weapons. They operate with Rice and Worthy at wide receiver, but lack much else behind them. With this core, the team missed the playoffs in 2026. By adding a player such as Thomas Jr., depth is renewed, and thus risk from offensive volatility should injuries occur to either key weapon is reduced.”

Thomas Jr. might be the hottest name on the current NFL trade block, especially with the NFL draft looming, teams may be looking for a proven wideout instead of drafting a pass catcher that has question marks surrounding them.

Brian Thomas Jr.’s Production Dipped in 2025, But His Ceiling is Still High

GettyBrian Thomas Jr. #7 of the Jacksonville Jaguars could be a Kansas City Chief’s trade target.

As a rookie in 2024, Thomas Jr. hauled in 87 catches for 1282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last season, there was a notable dip, even though the Jaguars’ offense took a step forward. Over 14 total games in 2025, Thomas Jr. caught 48 passes for 707 yards. He still has a very high ceiling as a former first-round draft pick out of LSU.

There were reports earlier this offseason that the Jags may want to move on from BTJ, and although they haven’t materialized since, anything can happen on Draft Day.
