Top WWE star IYO SKY has married longtime boyfriend Naraku, who was famously known as Evil back in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Naraku is currently signed to NXT and won his debut match against Lince Dorado.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, SKY has confirmed their recent wedding with an official statement and photo.
“To everyone who has always shown us such warm support. On a personal note, we would like to announce that NARAKU (formerly EVIL) of WWE and IYO SKY (formerly Io Shirai) of WWE are now married. We began our professional wrestling careers in Japan, each seeing different landscapes and “skies,” but starting this early summer, we feel a deep sense of connection and joy at becoming colleagues and comrades as we take on the same stage—WWE—across the ocean,” the statement read, via SEScoops.
“From now on, as a married couple, we will support each other in our daily lives. As WWE “Superstars,” we will share both the lonely “darkness” and the glory, lifting each other up and striving to shine even brighter.”
“We will never forget our gratitude to all the fans who have supported and guided us thus far, as well as to everyone involved, and we intend to forge ahead together toward even greater heights. We are still a work in progress, but we humbly ask for your continued guidance and support.”
The couple has been dating for years since they were still both in Japan. According to Slam Wrestling, SKY and Naraku were engaged back in 2015, as announced by Tokyo Sports.
IYO SKY’s Path To WWE
Before becoming IYO SKY, her in-ring name was Io Shirai, which she used in Stardom back in Japan. She used it during her stint in NXT, starting in 2018 until her main roster call up four years later.
Upon her WWE debut at SummerSlam 2022 as part of Damage CTRL, Shirai became IYO SKY. She got her main event push a year later, cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Bianca Belair at SummerSlam 2023.
SKY is also a former Women’s World Champion and is currently one of the top stars of Raw’s women’s division. Some even consider her one of the best wrestlers in the world.
Following her win over Sol Ruca last Monday on Raw, it seems like SKY will be turning her attention to Becky Lynch and the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Naraku’s WWE Debut
After 15 years in NJPW, Evil left the promotion and signed with WWE last month. He made his NXT debut on the April 28 episode of NXT. He confronted NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, who was also attacked by Tavion Heights and the debuting Mason Rook.
Soon after, Evil’s WWE name was revealed to be Naraku, and two weeks later, he defeated Lince Dorado in his debut match. He hasn’t been physical with D’Angelo yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he gets inserted into the main event scene at NXT.
In NJPW, Naraku was a one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a one-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, a four-time NEVER Openweight Champion, a two-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and a six-time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion.
