Interstate 70 closed in both directions between Copper Mountain and Vail Pass for crash, safety concerns

Interstate 70 is closed in both directions between East Vail and Vail Pass Summit for safety concerns and multiple crashes, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The interstate closed between exits 183 and 190 at 2:01 p.m. Friday, according to a safety alert from CDOT.

Westbound I-70 is also closed between Vail Pass Summit and Copper Mountain, or exits 190 and 195, CDOT announced at 2:18 p.m.

Waze users reported multiple small crashes along the interstate, but one large crash at Vail Pass Summit — exit 190 — is causing delays for traffic in both directions.

Travelers should expect delays, and no estimated time of reopening was available.
