The New York Jets suddenly traded defender Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, February 26.
NFL Insider Connor Hughes of SNY warned that it may not be the only deal they strike this offseason.
“The one thing that I would keep an eye on is trades for the Jets. They might not be done. This isn’t a fire sale, but the talk here at the NFL Combine, from speaking to multiple sources who met with the Jets, players not drafted by Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, they are available with the exception of Breece Hall, who the Jets plan on tagging if they can’t [extend him] or obviously Garrett Wilson,” Hughes said.
The Johnson Jets trade to Tennessee for nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat won’t be official until both players pass their physicals and we reach the new league year on March 11.
Gang Green now has $91 million in cap space following the trade, which is the third most in the NFL this offseason, per Over The Cap.
The Only Member Left of the Tribe
NFL draft analyst Jon Ledyard told me on “Boy Green Daily” that the Jets created a foundational bedrock in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.
Four years later, two of those three first-round picks have been traded to new teams. Johnson is now a Titan, and Sauce Gardner is a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
The only member of that famed Jets’ first-round draft class remaining is wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Hughes said he is safe from any of the trade discussions that are happening at the 2026 NFL combine.
NFL information broker Benjamin Allbright revealed to me on “Boy Green Daily” that the Buffalo Bills called the Jets about Wilson’s availability at the NFL trade deadline this past season.
“The Jets made it very clear that they were not moving Garrett Wilson, and that was pretty much that,” Allbright explained to me on the podcast.
It appears that stance hasn’t changed.
Johnson Shares Emotional Message With Jets Fans
Following the trade announcement, Johnson took to social media.
“New York, thank you for everything truly. The love I’ve been shown here for the past 4-5 years has been nothing short of amazing, both on and off the field. Y’all will always hold a special place in my heart. Wish all of my former coaches and former teammates the best!! Thank all of y’all for sharing a battlefield with me. 11 out🫡,” Johnson posted.
The message from Johnson to his new team was much shorter and to the point.
“TENNESSEE LETS 🤬 WORK!!!!,” the former Florida State product wrote in all caps.
Sweat Breaks Silence on Jets-Titans Trade
When the news first broke, Sweat simply quote-tweeted the news with a pair of Jet emojis on X previously Twitter.
However, after marinating on this career-altering move, Sweat went into more detail with a formal statement on social media.
“Much love to the Tennessee Titans for the journey, the grind, and the unforgettable moments. Forever grateful for the love, the lessons, and the fans who rode every high and low with me,” Sweat wrote.
“To the New York fans, I feel that energy already. Thank you for the welcome, the passion, and the belief. New chapter. Same hunger. Let’s do it, baby. 💚🔥,” Sweat added.
