Insider Delivers Massive Update on Raiders Head Coach Search

The Las Vegas Raiders continue their search for a new head coach. Although many assume this week will be crucial for determining who they will hire, that may not be the case.

In the latest update on the Silver and Black’s search for their new head coach, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Jan. 27 that the front office is nowhere close to finding their guy.

“The Las Vegas Raiders are still planning on another interview with a candidate this week,” Russini wrote on X. “They have yet to make a decision at head coach.”

All eyes are on Denver Broncos‘ Davis Webb and Seattle Seahawks‘ Klint Kubiak as Las Vegas look to be going for a young offensive-minded head coach. Still, it will be interesting to see if the Raiders do hire one of those two.

Raiders Get Message Over Ashton Jeanty Usage

Regardless of who the Raiders select, the head coach will need to start from the ground up in this rebuild. Nonetheless, there are pieces that Las Vegas can build around, one of them being Ashton Jeanty.

Moreover, former NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew shared how the Raiders should use Jeanty next season.

“You have to find a way to find a coach that’s creative enough to get him in space and to get him running like Christian McCaffrey does, like Kyle Shannon does with Christian McCaffrey,” Jones-Drew said on the Jan. 23 edition of “89 with Steve Smith and James Palmer.”

“So to me, that type of offense with that type of usage where he’s up at wide receiver, he’s in the backfield, he’s motioning, all this creativity stuff. Oh, he would excel in that.”

Jeanty didn’t have the best offensive line or the best offensive coaching in the 2025 NFL season. Nonetheless, he still recorded 1,321 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns despite everything that went on around him, per StatMuse.

If he was able to produce over 1,000 yards despite what was stacked against him, there’s no telling what Jeanty can do with an improved offensive line and play caller who won’t change his stance.

Tom Brady Receives Fernando Mendoza Warning

Still, all focus on who becomes the Raiders’ next head coach will be on developing the projected No. 1 overall pick, Fernando Mendoza. Moreover, with Tom Brady as the team’s minority owner, it would be a bad look for the best QB ever to play the position if Las Vegas were to fumble the development of Mendoza.

As a result, Yahoo! Sports’ Jason Fitz believes there’s pressure on Brady to ensure that Mendoza becomes the team’s franchise QB.

“Tom Brady himself needs to make sure that the infrastructure is taking care of his quarterback,” Fitz said on the Jan. 23 edition of “Yahoo Sports Daily.” “Tom Brady needs to make sure the person that knows what it takes for a quarterback to be surrounded with the right things needs to damn well make sure that the team he calls himself an owner of has that very infrastructure.

“If the Raiders don’t get it right with Fernando Mendoza, if they ruin Fernando Mendoza, not the other way around. If the Raiders ruin Fernando Mendoza, I’m looking squarely at you, Tom Brady.”
