Ideal Ja Morant Trade Destination Pitched for Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies are expected to open the Ja Morant trade market back up this summer.

Now that teams have a better idea of where they are at, those in need of Morant’s services, while healthier than in February, will be able to talk shop with the Grizzlies.

While the Morant market has been difficult to gauge throughout the 2025-2026 NBA season, one CBS Sports analyst believes that the Phoenix Suns should be the top suitor pursuing the star guard.

Making A Case For A Phoenix Suns-Ja Morant Pairing

“Sometimes a player needs new life and a new atmosphere to get back to the player that we once knew and loved,” Ashley Nicole Moss said on CBS Sports this week.

“Ja Morant is immensely talented, and when he is healthy, he is a force with any team that he plays with. I actually think Ja Morant would fit nicely in like a Phoenix. I think the Phoenix Suns are a team that has kind of struggled to get over the hump in the Western Conference. We saw them figure it out a little bit in the regular season and the postseason didn’t go their way. Devin Booker, if you bring in Ja Morant to that situation, a true point guard, Devin Booker gets to play his true position. That allows you to have a true point guard that they haven’t had since the Chris Paul era to run the offense.”

Since he joined the Grizzlies in 2019, Morant has been the starting point guard for Memphis.

Over seven seasons, he appeared in 327 regular-season games. Morant has averaged 22.4 points and 7.4 assists throughout his career.

The 2025-2026 season was clearly off for Morant. Not only did he deal with early issues with the coaching staff, but Morant was struggling to stay healthy. Ultimately, he played in just 20 games.

As a result of his inconsistent playing time, Morant had a down year with 19.5 points per game and 8.1 assists per game. Many agreed that a change of scenery for Morant could be just what he needs to feel untapped again. The Suns haven’t been a popular suitor throughout the year, but the hypothetical backcourt of Booker and Morant is an idea worth kicking around for the Suns.

As for the Grizzlies, they are clearly rebuilding in the Western Conference. They were open to trade offers for Morant this season, which means the phone lines will likely remain open in the offseason.
