Hulking Ex-Raiders DL Signs With Giants in Free Agency

The Las Vegas Raiders cycled through a lot of defensive linemen last season. One player who had a chance was Leki Fotu.

The massive 6-foot-5, 317-pound Oakland, California, native played six games for the Raiders, starting four of them. He had eight combined tackles and a sack before the team decided to part ways with him.

He made his way to the Houston Texans and lasted through the end of the season. He wasn’t a hot commodity in free agency and waited around for a while to find a new team. Luckily, he’s found a home. The New York Giants announced that they’ve signed Fotu.

He first came into the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals and also had a brief stint with the New York Jets. He’ll now head back to New York to try to earn a spot on a talented defensive line.

The Giants traded away star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, so there’ll be an opportunity for him to earn a role and keep a roster spot. Fotu is a massive space eater who can make an impact in run defense. He’ll have a real chance to compete for a roster spot in New York.

Maxx Crosby Talks Raiders’ Draft

The Raiders decided to focus mostly on defense in the draft, having used six of their 10 picks on defensive players. Defensive end Maxx Crosby previously wanted to get traded, but he seems all-in on the team now.

He’s excited about what the Raiders did in the draft.

“Getting drafted is an incredible experience, and big shout-out to everybody else getting drafted. We had so many picks in this draft. A lot of guys, a lot of talent,” Crosby said on “The Rush.” “Got a lot of DBs. We got another running back to complement Ashton (Jeanty). We got a new interior lineman, considered one of the better interior linemen in the draft from Texas A&M. We got a lot of guys, a lot of speed, a lot of talent.”

Crosby Reached Out to Every Draft Pick

Another sign that Crosby is fully committed to the Raiders is how he treated the team’s draft picks. He made a point to reach to every player the team drafted and welcome them.

“I’ve got the chance to talk to all of them, get on the phone with each and every one of them. Just the excitement and seeing those guys with their families and just being so fired up. It just takes you back, you know what I mean?” Crosby said. “It’s crazy how time flies, but eight years later, I’m going into my eighth season, and it seems like yesterday I was getting drafted. … Being able to live through them a little bit again, be able to give them some words of encouragement, is always really cool. So, I’m super fired up about all the guys coming in. Going to have a lot of new teammates, and I know they’re coming in ready to work. So, it’s going to be an incredible experience. But overall, great weekend.”
