The New York Yankees travel to face the Boston Red Sox Wednesday as the teams renew their rivalry in the first of two spring training games between the two American League East clubs. The matchup gets underway at 1:05 p.m. ET, 10:05 a.m. PT, at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, and features a premier pitching matchup.
For the Red Sox, lefty staff ace Garrett Crochet takes the mound for his second start of the spring, after finishing a close second in the AL Cy Young Award voting last season. The Yankees send 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil to the mound, looking to get back on track after missing the first four months of the 2025 season with a lat strain.
The Yankees vs. Red Sox game will be nationally televised by ESPN, with live streaming on the paid-subscription ESPN Unlimited app. The game will be the third of four spring training games aired nationally on the ESPN TV channel, with another six streamed online exclusively by ESPN Unlimited.
Because the game will be exclusively televised by ESPN, subscribers to the MLB.TV streaming service will find the game blacked out, with no local telecasts available.
What Time Is Yankees vs. Red Sox and Where Is It Played?
The game begins at 1:05 p.m. ET, 10:05 a.m. PT, at JetBlue Park, also known as Fenway South because the dimensions of the field are designed to closely imitate those at the Red Sox home of Fenway Park in Boston â including a Green Monster wall in left field.
The Grapefruit League contest marks another early look at roster battles as both clubs ramp up toward the regular season, but in this case, younger prospects will get a chance to impress their managers, with both the Yankees and Red Sox missing a significant number of regular players who have joined their World Baseball Classic teams.
The Yankees are missing three-time MVP Aaron Judge, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, closer David Bednar and left-handed pitcher Ryan Yarbrough. All four have now left Yankees camp to play for Team USA in the WBC.
Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. and right-hander Brendan Beck join Team Great Britain, while three players â infielder Amed Rosario, reliever Camilo Doval, and catcher Austin Wells â will play for the Dominican Republic squad, with top pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez and reliever Fernando Cruz suiting up for Puerto Rico.
Which Red Sox Players Are Missing Due to the WBC?
While the Yankees are missing 11 players, the Red Sox are down by 15 â most of them regular starting players or valuable MLB pitchers. They include outfielder Roman Anthony and reliever Garrett Whitlock on Team USA; outfielder/DH Masataka Yoshida on Samurai Japan; righty starter Brayan Bello with the Dominican Republic; first baseman Willson Contreras, Gold Glove right fielder Wilyer Abreu, and left-handed starting pitcher Ranger Suárez on Team Venezuela; Gold Glove center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela on the Netherlands team; and reliever Greg Weissert on Team Italy â as well as four other minor league players on other teams.
Even without those players, the game is the first opportunity to watch the Yankees face the Red Sox since last October’s AL Wild Card playoff series, won in three games by New York. The rivals square off once more in the Grapefruit League on Mar. 18 at the Yankees spring home of Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. After that, the next Yankees-Red Sox game, and the first one that counts, takes place on Apr. 21 at Fenway Park â a game that will also be nationally televised, this time by the cable network TBS.
