The Houston Astros are set to head out West this weekend to take on the San Diego Padres.
In their previous series, the Stros dropped two of three to the Toronto Blue Jays. However, despite the series loss, Houston still holds a slight lead in the AL West.
Roster transactions feel like they’re at an all-time high this week, and the Astros are no exception.
Earlier this week (on August 5), the Astros quietly released 25-year-old infielder Jeron Williams from their organization.

According to MiLB.com’s transactions tracker, 25-year-old infielder Jeron Williams was released by the Corpus Christi Hooks (on 8/5):
“Corpus Christi Hooks released SS Jeron Williams.”
Williams, 25, has pitched much of this season due to being on the IL. He has not made his MLB debut and is now free to sign with any MLB organization.
Across 22 total games played in the minors this season, Williams batted .254 in 71 at-bats with one home run, four doubles, and an OPS of .726.
The Houston Astros drafted Jeron Williams in the ninth round of the 2023 MLB draft out of Toledo. In 177 total games played in his professional career, his batting average is .247 with 11 home runs, 30 doubles, and 69 RBI.

The Houston Astros, with a 59-57 record, still hold the top spot in the AL West by 1.5 games over the Texas Rangers.
Given that they are headed out West for the next two series (Padres, Mariners), it’s fair to note the Stros are 29-28 on the road this season.
Also, the Astros have been playing pretty solid baseball as of late. They are winners of seven of their last 10 games, and have gone 12-6 since the All-Star break.
