In the third round of the NFL Draft, the New York Giants added a dynamic offensive weapon in the form of Malachi Fields. Upon officially entering the pro ranks, the young wideout revealed some of the players he’s modeled himself after in his football journey.
Fields put together a promising college career at Notre Dame and Virginia, racking up 630 yards and five touchdowns as a senior. He was ranked as the 11th-best WR prospect in the 2026 class, ultimately landing with New York with the 10th pick in round three.
While speaking with the media after being taken by the Giants, Fields was asked which players he’s drawn from when rounding out his skill set. He cited current star receivers like AJ Brown, along with established veterans like Mike Evans.
“I’d growing up I watched a lot of Julio Jones. But more recently I’ve been watching AJ Brown, Keenan Allen, Mike Evans,” Fields told reporters. “Just those bigger dudes that move well. They’re the bigger guys but can still get in and out of routes.”
If Fields can resemble any of these players for the Giants, he is sure to have a long and successful career in the NFL.
Malachi Fields Grateful Giants Executed Trade to Select Him in the NFL Draft
Getting Fields was a bit of an uphill climb for the Giants, as they had to execute a trade to pick near the top of the third round. They are hoping that this investment pays off for them, and Fields is eager to show them they made the right decision.
During his introductory press conference, Fields was asked about New York trading for the pick they used to take him. He is grateful of them for doing so, and feels it means more that they parted with assets to get him on the roster.
“It does mean more because they took a chance on me, trading up,” Fields said. “Investing in me like that, I just want to prove them right.”
The Giants acquired the 74th overall pick from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a fourth and fifth-round pick in this year’s draft, along with a fourth rounder in 2027.
Giants Coach John Harbaugh Applauds Joe Schoen for Malachi Fields Trade
Since taking over as the Giants’ head coach, John Harbaugh has made it clear he wants to build a big and physical team in New York. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Fields fits that mold at wide receiver.
While speaking with the media, Harbaugh gave his thoughts on the Giants walking out of the third round with Fields. He cited that the Notre Dame standout was someone they were high on and applauded GM Joe Schoen for his efforts throughout the draft.
“Malachi was a guy we had right at the top of our board from the beginning of the day. We were targeting him right out of the gates,” Harbaugh said. “I think Joe did a great job of understanding kind of the draft and where people value certain players and thought we could get him a little later.”
Now with New York, Fields joins a receiver corps headlined by another promising young talent in Malik Nabers.
