Giants’ John Harbaugh Swipes 6-Foot-8 Starter From Ravens in Signing News

The New York Giants and head coach John Harbaugh aren’t done signing former Baltimore Ravens — and they aren’t done reinforcing the offensive line either — as the latest NFL free agency news reports right guard Daniel Faalele is joining Big Blue.

“The Giants continue to add their O-line before the Draft, agreeing to terms with former Ravens G Daniel Faalele on a 1-year deal, sources say,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport relayed on April 8.

Continuing: “The 6-foot-8 Faalele started every game over the last 2 seasons and has a familiarity with several coaches, including John Harbaugh.”

Heavy on Giants identified Faalele as a potential late free agency target on March 28, but that was before Big Blue brought in veteran Lucas Patrick at guard earlier this week. With Patrick, the Giants finally had a true starting candidate at right guard. Now, with Faalele, they have two.

Daniel Faalele Free Agency News Solves Another Giants Positional Need Before the NFL Draft

Ravens' Daniel Faalele signs with Giants before NFL draft

GettyBaltimore Ravens right guard Daniel Faalele is signing with the New York Giants in NFL free agency.

This is smart roster-building right here from Harbaugh, general manager Joe Schoen, and front office executive Dawn Aponte. You never want to go into the NFL draft with a glaring need, and the Giants had one at right guard up until this week.

The Patrick and Faalele moves change everything at the position, and they could have an impact on the NYG draft strategy, too.

Offensive linemen Francis Mauigoa and Spencer Fano have become popular mock predictions for the Giants in recent weeks. With the vacancy at right guard, the theory was to draft either Mauigoa or Fano to start on the interior the next two seasons, then have them kick out to right or left tackle in the future.

Now, that theory feels less likely.

Granted, neither Faalele nor Patrick is a top-tier level guard, but both are adequate starting options with experience. Given he is a former fourth-round selection and 35-game starter under Harbaugh, Faalele is probably the betting favorite to start Week 1 at this time.

Having said that, Patrick offers quality competition for both him and center John Michael Schmitz.

Just like that, the Giants’ most dire need doesn’t feel so dire anymore.

Taking a Closer Look at John Harbaugh’s Latest Ravens Reunion News With the Giants

The Giants’ 2026 free agency period has mostly been a mix of retaining players and reuniting with former Ravens. The reunion, of course, is between Harbaugh and his former players and staff.

Taking a closer look at Faalele, he has graded out as a stronger pass protector than run blocker throughout his career.

Pro Football Focus has never credited Faalele with a season-long run-blocking grade of 60.0 or higher. His best cumulative run-blocking mark was a 59.8 in 2024.

Faalele hasn’t necessarily been that much better in pass protection, but his two starting grades in 2024 and 2025 are both 60.1 or higher.

PFF charged Faalele with 5 sacks and 63 quarterback pressures over the past two years combined. He has also been flagged 11 times since taking over as the Ravens’ starting right guard.

In all honesty, Faalele’s track record is pretty similar to Patrick’s. They’re both probably a step above what the Giants had on the roster (Evan Neal, Jake Kubas, Aaron Stinnie, etc.). But neither is going to move the needle all that much.

It should be Faalele’s job to lose, barring the Giants spending a premium draft pick at the position.
