The New York Giants have a lot of work to do this offseason. While they appear to have found their quarterback of the future, Jaxson Dart, just about every other spot on the roster needs to be tuned up. Beyond that, the team is looking for a new head coach after it fired Brian Daboll midway through the 2025 campaign.
While hiring another new head coach isn’t exactly ideal for the Giants, the good news is that there is a slew of strong candidates available. Perhaps the best of the bunch is John Harbaugh, who was shockingly fired by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week. New York is reportedly very interested in hiring him to be its next head coach, and it may have inadvertently received a huge boost in its pursuit of him after the Miami Dolphins hired their new general manager on Friday morning.
Giants May Not Have to Worry About Dolphins in Race for John Harbaugh
While rumors had swirled about the possibility of Harbaugh getting fired after the Ravens’ tough 2025 campaign, nobody actually expected it to happen. Now that he’s available, though, teams in need of a head coach have had to completely alter their searches, as a new top candidate has become available after Baltimore moved on from its longtime leader.
The Giants may not appear to be in a great spot, but having Dart under center gives them some leverage when searching for a new head coach. On offense, Dart has a solid set of playmakers in Malik Nabers, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Cam Skattebo working alongside him, and the defense is led by superstar pass rusher Brian Burns and Abdul Carter.
Harbaugh is set to have several different suitors, but right out of the gate, it seems like New York is leading the pack. One team that was expected to be in the hunt for Harbaugh is the Dolphins, but after they hired longtime Green Bay Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan instead of Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, who has ties to the former Ravens coach, some believed that opened the door for the Giants to land their top head coach target.
“For Giants fans who want John Harbaugh, the Dolphins GM hiring should be welcome news for you,” Mike Garafolo of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

Harbaugh has suddenly become the most accomplished head coach candidate available this offseason, so it isn’t a surprise to see that a Giants team that desperately wants a stable leader on the sidelines is interested in him. It is still early in their process for finding a new head coach, but it looks like Harbaugh is leading the pack.
Given his pedigree, Harbaugh is likely going to be able to pick whichever head coaching gig appeals to him the most. New York’s setup isn’t perfect, but with the right leader, this team could emerge as a powerhouse in the NFC East in the near future. Harbaugh may just be that guy, and with the Dolphins seemingly out of the running for his services, the Giants’ pursuit of their top target will be worth keeping close tabs on moving forward.
