The New York Giants could use some more room to operate in 2026 NFL free agency, and the consistent NYG news and rumors have pointed to four no-brainer cut candidates that would clear a little over $24 million altogether.
According to Over the Cap, the Giants currently only have approximately $5.231 million in available cap space, so an extra $24 million would go a long way.
The first of the four is veteran linebacker and defensive captain Bobby Okereke.
Giants Should Move on From Bobby Okereke in 2026
The biggest name on this list is Okereke, but for the Giants, it’s simply time to move on.
Okereke signed a four-year, $40 million contract with Big Blue in 2023, and he’s got one season remaining on that agreement. Unfortunately, the former key acquisition’s play has significantly diminished over the years.
Many believed the Giants would cut Okereke last offseason, but they elected to stick with him for 2025. For the second straight season, that decision ended up being money that was poorly spent, as the NYG defense struggled with Okereke right at the heart of it.
In 2026, the Giants can shed $9 million in cap space by either releasing or trading Okereke, but the latter is unlikely to occur. Per Over the Cap, the dead cap hit on this cut would be approximately $5.463 million.
Devin Singletary & Graham Gano Are Near-Guarantees to Be Cut Ahead of NFL Free Agency
GettyNew York Giants running back Devin Singletary is expected to be cut prior to 2026 NFL free agency.
While Okereke’s cut is likely, but debatable, the next two names on the list are near-guarantees, and that’s running back Devin Singletary and kicker Graham Gano.
Both Singletary and Gano have been replaced in recent years. The Giants drafted running backs Tyrone Tracy and Cam Skattebo in consecutive seasons, both of whom have outplayed Singletary.
At kicker, it took some time, but the G-Men may have finally found their starter of the future in late-season pickup Ben Sauls.
After Gano suffered more injuries throughout the 2025 campaign, the Giants eventually turned to Sauls over the final three weeks. The 24-year-old was a perfect 8-for-8 on field goal attempts and a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points.
If Big Blue were to part ways with both Singletary and Gano, as expected, they’d free up a total of $9.75 million ($5.25 million for Singletary, $4.5 million for Gano). According to Over the Cap, both players’ dead cap hits would be a minuscule $1.25 million — although there is a chance that Gano decides to retire.
Final Giants’ Cut News & Rumors Identify OT James Hudson as a Possible One & Done Signing
The last cut candidate on this list is backup offensive tackle James Hudson, who was brought in to fortify the OL depth behind left tackle Andrew Thomas and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor.
The Giants may end up holding onto Hudson, based on Thomas’ injury history and the fact that Eluemunor is a free agent, but they really shouldn’t.
Hudson was a disaster when called upon in 2025, and the Giants have younger players like Marcus Mbow who have displayed more talent. According to Over the Cap, Big Blue can save $5.38 million by releasing Hudson ahead of free agency.
That’s money that could help get them a helpful contributor elsewhere, and the Giants should really move on after one season with how poorly Hudson performed.
If they do, the organization would incur a dead cap hit of exactly $2.305 million, but combined with the other three, Hudson’s departure frees up the aforementioned $24 million in cap space.
Assuming the Giants restructure a few contracts as well, as they typically would, this could get their available cap amount to a respectable number.
