The release of over three million pages related to late and disgraced former financier turned convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein contained mentions of New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch “at least 440 times,” per ESPN News Services.
A report by Katie Strang, Carson Kessler, Nathan Fenno and Alex Andrejev of The Athletic detailed how e-mails implied Epstein arranged women for Giants chairman Tisch. Widespread release of millions of documents by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday, January 30 also included emails from 2013 sent by Epstein, as well as apparent replies from Tisch.
Their correspondence appears to indicate Epstein suggested and provided multiple women of various nationalities for Tisch. Those interactions range from May to September of that year.
Both ESPN and The Athletic reported neither Tisch nor the Giants responded to requests for comments on the reports.
Steve Tisch Reportedly Exchanged Messages With Jeffrey Epstein
The pattern of these exchanged messages appeared to involve Epstein scouting and recruiting women. One such example was described in the ESPN report as being “dated April 21, 2013, Epstein appears to be setting up Tisch with someone named Katya.’ Ok, Jeffrey, I’ll be in blue loose pants and white loose shirt,’ Katya tells Epstein. ‘I googled Steve Tisch he is oscar winner producer, and Giants owner. I’d love to meet him. My phone number is [redacted].’
Tisch, who won an Oscar in 1994 for his role in the production of that year’s Best Picture winner, Forrest Gump, usually appeared to respond to Epstein’s prompting.
An example of those responses was reported by Strang, Kessler and Fenno. They outlined how “In May 2013, Epstein emailed Tisch, and he responded, ‘Still in NFL meeting.’ Their exchange continued that afternoon. ‘I can invite the (Russian) … to meet if you like,’ Epstein responded. ‘Is she fun?’ Tisch emailed a minute later. In June 2013, Tisch asked Epstein about a specific woman. Epstein responded: ‘(Tahitian) speaks mostly french exotic.’ ‘Working girl?’ Tisch wrote back. ‘Never,’ Epstein emailed.
The newly released files also show Tisch contacting Epstein later in June, per the report in The Athletic. In the message, Tisch is said to have asked, “‘Is my present in NYC?’ Epstein replied, ‘Yes.’ Tisch followed up early the next morning, ‘Can I get my surprise to take me to lunch tomorrow?’”
Epstein began serving a jail term in July 2008 “after pleading guilty to soliciting sex from girls as young as 14,” according to Elana Schor for The Guardian.
He was arrested again in July 2019 and subsequently “charged with sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors,” per the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
Just over a month later, Epstein was pronounced dead in custody. His death was later “ruled suicide by hanging, according to the New York medical examiner,” per BBC News.
Giants Co-Owner Began Assuming Control in 2005
Tisch, 76, whose many film credits as a producer also include The Equalizer series, as well as the 2009 remake of The Taking of Pelham 123, began his involvement with the Giants back in 1991.
That’s when his father, Preston Robert Tisch, bought a 50 percent stake in the Giants. Shortly after the franchise won its second Vince Lombardi Trophy by winning Super Bowl XXV at the expense of the Buffalo Bills.
It wasn’t until 2005 when Steve Tisch became chairman and executive vice president. He is said to have offered, in September 2013, “Epstein two tickets to his suite for the Giants game, and he invited him to other games as well,” according to details from The Athletic.
Kessler, Fenno, Strang and Andrejev did not say whether Epstein accepted any of these invites or attended games.
