Giants and John Harbaugh Advised to Add $59 Million Player, New York Native

The New York Giants are getting good grades for their 2026 NFL draft class, but they still have some roster gaps to fill, as do the majority of NFL teams this time in the offseason. Now, the Giants and head coach John Harbaugh are being urged to add a New York native to their roster to perfect things.

Not that the Giants are in a bad spot heading into the 2026-27 season. They impressed during the draft, with Rob Rang of Fox Sports giving the team an “A-“ and praising their move to get Arvell Reese.

But, the New York Giants could certainly beef up their defensive line, and one way to do that would be by adding free agent, and New York native, DaQuan Jones, an available defensive tackle.

New York Native Would Bring a Strong Veteran Presence to New York Giants’ D-Line

So, what makes Jones a fit for this franchise, other than his history in the state? In a feature for the Giants Wire, Dan Benton names him a prime candidate to come to the Big Apple for a number of reasons.

“Another option at defensive tackle is DaQuan Jones, a New York native with 167 career games of experience,” he states in the piece, after rattling off a few other suggestions for available free agents. “He can rotate in at nose tackle and play either defensive end position in a 3-4 defense, adding potential versatility for the Giants.” He also points out that the player is “very athletic for his size” of 6-foot-4, 320 pounds.

There’s something heartfelt about a player ending his career where it started. Jones, whose total career earnings are around $59 million, according to research from Over the Cap, was born in Johnson City, New York, and played football at Johnson City high school before breaking into the NFL. Having him end his career in New York would be special, but what matters most is that he would bring a real veteran presence to this team.

Glowing Words for John Harbaugh and the New York Giants’ 2026 NFL Draft Class

When it comes to the Giants’ draft, it really couldn’t have gone better. As mentioned earlier, Rang of Fox Sports giving the team an “A-” for snagging Reese.

“The John Harbaugh era started off in true ‘Big Blue’ fashion with arguably the best overall prospect stolen at No. 5 overall and the best blocker a few picks later,” he notes in the piece. “Arvell Reese is a virtual ball of clay whose ability as a rusher and off-ball linebacker should unleash the talent of recent first-round picks Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, among others.”

On a low-key note, he’s also pumped for Francis Mauigoa. “He starred at right tackle for Miami, but I like him as a mauling right guard for the Giants,” Rang notes.

So, it’s all smiles for Harbaugh and the New York Giants coming out of the 2026 NFL draft. Now, it’s time for the real work to begin of Harbaugh and his coaching staff training these rookies for the big time.
