The Green Bay Packers just completed a successful 2026 NFL Draft. Despite not having a first-round pick, general manager Brian Gutekunst and the front office brought in some nice young talent who could help immediately.
In the second round, the Packers brought in cornerback Brandon Cisse. They added defensive tackle Chris McLellan in the third round and were also able to get a huge steal in pass rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton in the fourth round.
Just a few days after the NFL Draft wrapped up, a former Green Bay starting playmaker landed a new deal with an NFC rival.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
MVS Had a Quality Run With the Packers
During his four-year stint with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling became a favorite deep threat for Aaron Rodgers. He ended up catching 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns and made 39 starts for Green Bay.
Since playing for the Packers, Valdes-Scantling has become a journeyman. He has played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, he finds himself on the Cowboys.
Throughout his entire NFL career, the 31-year-old wide receiver has played in 116 games. He has totaled 219 receptions for 3,686 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Valdes-Scantling has had a hard time finding success since leaving Green Bay.
Green Bay’s Wide Receiver Corps Seems to Be Set
Speaking of the wide receiver position, the Packers have gone through some change this offseason.
Romeo Doubs, who was arguably the team’s No. 1 wideout over the last couple of years, chose to leave town in free agency. He ended up landing a lucrative four-year, $68 million deal with the New England Patriots.
After that move, Green Bay decided to move on from Dontayvion Wicks. Gutekunst traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for draft capital.
It appears that the Packers are looking to move forward with Jayden Reed, who just signed a new extension, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Savion Williams as their top weapons. Watson is also expected to get a new deal in the near future.
Only time will tell whether or not Green Bay has made the right decisions at the position. Jordan Love will need all four of the above mentioned receivers to step up this season.
As for Valdes-Scantling, the former Packers’ starter will look to latch on with Dallas and carve out a role for himself behind CeeDee Lamb and potentially George Pickens.
