Former Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers still has a place in the hearts of most fans. Even though things didn’t end on the most positive note between Rodgers and the Packers, his 18 years with the franchise will never be forgotten.
Last season, Rodgers played on a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. At 41 years old entering NFL free agency this offseason, there has been speculation about what he could choose to do.
One option would be for the future Hall of Fame quarterback to ride off into the sunset of retirement. He has accomplished more than most quarterbacks could even dream of doing. However, he might still have the itch to play football.
Rodgers could choose to return to the Steelers to play for former Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy. Or, he could opt to sign with another team in free agency.
Only time will tell, but one former Packers star and a former teammate of Rodgers has spoken out with his opinion on the matter.
Former Green Bay Packers Stars Predicts Aaron Rodgers’ NFL Future
TJ Lang, who was a star offensive lineman for Green Bay and helped protect Rodgers, spoke out with his prediction about what the star quarterback will choose to do this offseason. He also offered a potential timeline for Rodgers’ decision.
“I feel like we’re gonna find out. I mean, I feel like we’re gonna find out in the next week,” Lang said.
“You can’t wait until May anymore. We got free agency coming up. I think Aaron’s gonna try one more year. I would say that because I think he had a couple really tough years in New York, obviously the first year with the Achilles, the second year. Just being in an overall dysfunctional organization, I think wears on you.”
He believes that Rodgers leading Pittsburgh to the playoffs gave him a taste of winning again that he might not want to walk away from.
“I would say maybe he got that little bit of a taste last year by making it to the playoffs and feeling like, hey, we’re not far off. And maybe him and Mike have, you know, mended some things.”
What Are Aaron Rodgers’ Options Entering NFL Free Agency?
Should Rodgers choose to return for one more season, there are only a few logical suitors who could look to sign him.
Obviously, the Steelers would be the clear-cut favorite to work out a new deal for Rodgers. He enjoyed his one season with the franchise and is very familiar with McCarthy. That would be the most realistic scenario.
A team like the Minnesota Vikings, who had mutual interest with Rodgers last offseason, could also revisit negotiations. J.J. McCarthy did nothing to gain confidence from the Vikings and Rodgers would have to be interested in throwing to Justin Jefferson.
Finally, the Arizona Cardinals could be a possible destination. Matt LaFleur’s brother, Mike LaFleur, is the new head coach of the Cardinals and the team recently decided to part ways with Kyler Murray.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors about Rodgers as the offseason gets underway. Hopefully, his decision won’t drag out too long and fans will know his future soon.
