Former New York Yankees Player Is Still In The Minor Leagues

On Wednesday night, the New York Yankees played the second game of their series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The Yankees won by a score of 4-1.

They have outscored Boston 8-1 in the first two games of their series.

Former Yankees Player Is Still Playing In The Minor Leagues

With the season well underway, it’s worth noting that a former Yankees draft pick is currently playing in the Minor Leagues.

Ben Gamel is on the Gwinnett Stripers (the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves).

He is batting .148 with one home run, four RBI’s, six runs and one stolen base in 14 games.

Gamel’s MLB Career

Gamel was picked in the 10th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Yankees.

He played in six games for the Yankees (as a rookie) before getting traded to the Seattle Mariners.

Gamel then spent part of three years in Seattle.

Over 270 games with the franchise, he batted .270 with 13 home runs, 83 RBI’s, 113 runs and 11 stolen bases.

Following Seattle, Gamel had stints with the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros, Cleveland Guardians and San Diego Padres over nine MLB seasons.

He last played in the Major Leagues during the 2024 season with the Mets and Astros.

Over 723 career games, the 33-year-old is batting .252 with 41 home runs, 204 RBI’s, 283 runs and 22 stolen bases.

Most recently, Gamel was with the Braves during spring training.

The Braves wrote (via X) on March 20: “The #Braves today optioned LHP Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett, and reassigned RHP JR Ritchie, C Sandy León, INF Luke Williams, OF José Azócar and OF Ben Gamel to minor league camp. Atlanta now has 36 active players in camp.”

Current Yankees

The Yankees are the first-place team in the American League East with a 15-9 record in 24 games.

They have one more game against the Red Sox before a series with the Astros that starts on Friday in Houston.
